Those brave defenders of our sacred borders gassing women and children makes me swell with pride and patriotism!  Roll Eyes

So what's the alternative? Let everyone in?

One can argue that the orange idiot should have pursued a different strategy beforehand, but that doesn't excuse trying to mass charge across the border.
They wouldn't be "mass charging" the border if he hadn't closed it, If they were trying to enter illegally they wouldn't have showed up at a port of entry to ask for asylum, they would have snuck in.

Do you really think that if the "peaceful protest march" had been allowed to reach the border that they would have politely turned back when told "no, you can't come in"?  If so, you're more deluded that the people who voted for Trump.

What the people who were trying to cross probably thought was there was going to be a repeat of what happened at the Mexico-Guatemala border when the caravan crossed into Mexico.  A lot of bluster and then they'd be able to cross.  In the end, about all most of them will have achieved is a respite of several months from being in their home country, which is troubling but not unexpected.

Only San Diego-Tijuana? Why not throw in the rest of the border?

Oh, boo hoo. Just because a couple kids are crying doesn't make the caravan less dangerous.

Mexico is going to start deporting some caravan members.

At this point, given that Mexico has offered asylum to the migrants and a chance to start a new life in Chiapas, why wouldnt they just accept that deal?

Mexico is not on par with the US in terms of standard of living, etc but its still head and shoulders above some portions of central america and the cultural shock will be muted somewhat.

No hate for the parents who forced her to walk 2,500 Miles? If we had an enforced rigid merit based immigration system none of this would happen. The blame resides with those who encourage mass immigration of the low skilled by not enforcing immigration laws like every other country

Mine came here legally, and one was a doctor. Like I said, we have enough problems here without importing the entire 3rd world to just post up here. We want the best of the best coming in. Not just random people with nothing to offer and we need to prioritize Americans before helping anyone else

It's ironic that these refugees of the failed US foreign policy in Central America try to come to the US.

This entire situation is a disgrace. There was never any reason to make this particular movement into a public humiliation of defenseless people. US is, of course, under no obligation to accept anyone. But, in this case, its government has deliberately decided to make a public demonstration of its own cruelty. Yes, many others have cooperated in this worthy objective. Human disgracefulness has no limits.

I am Mexican American and follow the news of the case. My Mexican friends say that the migrants deliberately used the children as human shields and the general atmosphere is one of total rejection of the caravan.

More or less. And it probably won't make a difference because of, again, policy regarding Honduras and Guatemala.

Bottom line is the country is our house. If there was someone trying to enter your house after you repeatedly say you don’t want them there, you have to get the message through to them. Additionally this is after they had already broken into your neighbors house (Mexico)

O, yeah, our dear Mexican compatriots are showing themselves properly disgusting as well. Hell is a large place: there will be space there for all of us.

By tearing down the fence and trying to illegally cross? Plus they already had an offer of asylum in Mexico a month ago. They turned it down and managed to get several cities in Mexico pissed at them. Despite what you might see on tv, the majority of the caravan is not families but young men. Very similar to what happened in Europe a few years ago

Strictly speaking, they were trying to apply for asylum. There is nothing that prevents the US, upon proper consideration of their asylum applications, to deny them.

BTW, Tijuana is exactly the point on the border where illegal crossing, still more one with small kids in tow, is pretty much impossible.

The cruelty of this all is staggering. Now, of course, it is not only the Americans who are to blame. It all started back in Honduras for reasons of local politics. Some SOBs back there decided to exploit a bunch of poor and desperate people, feeding them fairy tales about a "way to get to the US". Not the first time, and not the last, but this one got out of control - in great part because some other SOBs decided to make a political point about it in the US. My country is not coming out of this smelling roses so far either - at least, we can, for the moment, protest that this is because we have no government in place and nobody is taking decisions.  But, then, again, when have we showed any decency to our poorer neighbours?

There are ways of dealing with this humanely. But that requires, actually, having humans out there taking decisions. Alas, these are in short supply.

So you want totally open borders? Trump's immigration policy is cruel and overly strict, but that doesn't mean open borders is the solution. That'd be akin to arguing that the proper response to those wanting to ban abortion is to be in favor of infanticide up until kindergarten. What is happening at San Ysidro is the symptom of Trump's bad policy, but what CPB did today was unfortunately the correct response to what happened there.

It's not racist though. Also do you ag and the other red avatars think that the Obama administration would have just allowed all of these migrants into the country. I don't. Of course he wouldn't have sent troops to the border, but the migrants most likely would have been denied entry while waiting to request asylum. We don't just accept everyone who requests asylum.
