So about on par with Beto in 2018 and a 180 from Hillary in 2016.

Till yesterday Cornyn was running ads about how West the real liberal in the race. Not this.
Maybe his campaign sees something that makes him nervous?

I feel like once Hegar is more known (esp with her bio), she'll be more of a threat, since Cornyn doesn't seem to be particularly liked.

Also interested to see how much Hegar raises now that she's the nominee

Hegar has been losing in every poll to Cornyn. Safe R

*Sigh*

This is going to be one of those elections where the whole thing becomes a misogynistic slug fest where the GOP post unflattering pictures of the candidate, demean her character with the Clinton/Pelosi insult playbook and dog-whistle the heck out of the entire campaign.

At least they're mixing it up with Chuck Schumer this time.  Tongue

I wonder if that story will break through past the Free Beacon sphere. Perhaps the Drudge Report? Maybe even the Washington Times?

uhhh because it's a quote from her, and if she's looking to win a FEDERAL SENATE race in TX as a Democrat, you're probably not going to want to look weak on China or turn off the Republicans that she is trying to win over

My gut tells me we're going to have months of everyone slamming Hegar as an awful candidate and then her margin will be nearly identical to Biden's in November. Hegar is far from an A-tier recruit, but Cornyn is hardly an abnormally strong incumbent.

Tarrant is more establishment, whereas Austin and Houston tend to be more "hip". Cornyn is prolly a better fit for Dallas and the surrounding suburban areas than Houston and Austin, where the culture of the electorate would be far more willing to elect Hegar.

I very much agree with you. But unless she pulls out a win, I think she's damned if she does & damned if she don't.

If she loses by like 10% and underperforms Biden, she'll be considered a horrible candidate for blowing a potentially competitive race and we'll be left wondering how the race would've looked if Beto ran.

If she loses but beats expectations, performing similarly to Beto '18 and/or matches Bidens numbers, she'll be considered a horrible candidate for not getting the job done and we'll be left wondering how the race would've looked if Beto ran.

Castro should have really run for this seat instead of Hegar, he would certainly made TX more winnable for Ds in a Covid 19 environment,  Cornyn is too strong for Hegar to beat him. But, Castro is more his equal

Furthermore, I think we're forgetting that Hegar is from Williamson County....

In 2022 I think you might see maps where Dems win Williamson but not Tarrant. In Tarrant dems rely more on hispanic turnout, which dips during midterms.

I continue to say this race will not be more than 2-3% apart from the Presidential race. Most Texans do not have a strong opinion on either Cornyn or Hegar, they will vote for the R or D based on how they are voting for President.
