It appears that Ms. Salazar accidentally filed to run in FL-26:

Well, she'll probably get more votes in FL-26 than Shalala will.

Way too generous to Republicans. I would place this district firmly in the Safe D column.

Who’s her competition? I thought she was the presumptive nominee at this point.

More accustomed to Miles maps, and like him a lot. But - like both and use maps of both...

There's literally no other serious candidate in the field... I'm also pretty sure the DCCC is backing her.

Hopefully not. I would rather win the seat this time, and Gina Ortiz Jones is too weak of a candidate to ensure that such a result occurs.

How is that? She nearly beat a guy who Beto O'Rourke practically endorsed, and would have won if the DCCC had not pulled out prematurely on the back of one of those horrendously inaccurate NY Times live polls.

The fundamentals of this seats partisan leanings + the national environment + Hurds past electoral performance record were so Democratic to the extent that none of this should have been enough to prevent Hurd from losing anyways.

True but remember, the Dems also lost a special election for state senate in a seat they'd held for 100 years. The "fundamentals" don't mean much in this district where Latino turnout is in the cellar.

Pete Gallego might jump in, from what I’ve been reading.

I don’t think Gallego is an awful candidate, although he’s certainly not the A-lister he once was.  I think Jones is a perfectly good nominee, but I don’t think it’s clear that she’s any stronger than Gallego.  Either of them should be able to pick up the seat, especially if Flores sits it out (although I think he’d lose against either of them, that special election had very low Hispanic turnout IIRC).
