What part of Medicaid expansion only passed by six points in this district do you not understand? These people are ignorant and don't care about free college and single payer, they care about building a wall and banning muslims from the country! B/c Jared Golden doesn't stand for those racist policies, he won't stand a chance.

Not surprised to see most of the Democrats on here celebrating her return. Why do people like Pelosi so much, especially after what happened during her first tenure as Speaker?

I don't like her but I prefer her to the alternatives.

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement. But hopefully she won't be there for longer than the next few years. However, I am vexed by people on here who seem to think that a Democratic-run House will do any better than its predecessor. I expect the gridlock and ineffectiveness of recent years to continue.

It will do better because it will actually put a check on the White House.

Would you be saying this if this were a Democratic Administration and a Republican House, just like eight years ago? I doubt it.

No one should have. But it's still interesting to see that Pelosi just barely hit the number that she needed. That suggests, that a significant portion of the Democratic caucus is opposed to her, and should be another signal that she should retire very soon.

Thats.....15 Democrats, or 7% of the Democratic Caucus.

To be fair many Democrats voted for her because only no viable candidate emerged from the left.

yeah, but it still doesnt justify the observation that this vote proves that there is a large chunk of the Democrats who dont like/want Pelosi.

Marijuana IS addictive; it's HIGHLY addictive.  People don't view it as such because it's fat soluble.  Because it's fat soluble, it's half-life is much longer than water-soluble drugs, meaning that it stays in your system MUCH longer, but the flipside of this is that withdrawal symptoms are much less profounc because of the longer half-life.

When I was a substance abuse counselor, I found many folks whose idea of recovery was the "Marijuana Maintenance Program".  They were willing to give up all drugs, including alcohol.  (I had lots of clients claiming they "didn't like" alcohol, and that seemed evident.)  But these folks HAD to have their weed.  They HAD to have it, KNOWING that it would stay in their system, KNOWING that they'd test positive for employment drug tests, etc.  They HAD to have it, and refused to live without it.  This was NOT logical, but it was evident that having weed was a part of these people's addictive norms, and the most stubborn part of it.

I'm not in that field currently, and the world of Medical Marijuana Cards, etc, is a brave new world on this topic.  There are thousands of substance abusers, including those who are now looking to "get on the card" as if it were just another psychotropic medication.  I don't know what exactly I think about this, but I do know that we have created a society where millions of people are desperate to feel better than they do normally.  I also know that we have created a society where millions have been traumatized and suffer from some degree of post-traumatic stress, up to and including PTSD.  Cracking down on Big Pharma, Pill Mills, and the like won't do a thing to relieve THAT problem.

It's just a word. Treating it like it's forbidden gives it more meaning than it deserves. As long as you aren't acting like a jerk and using it to insult someone, it's really not a big deal.

That didn't happen by accident. Most Democrats realize Pelosi's the best one to lead them right now for a variety of reasons.

Clearly it is, though I don't think it's about to start voting Republican by 15-20% like Missouri, and I doubt that Trump even wins it by double digits unless he's winning massively overall.

I agree here. If a Republican wins the national popular vote, Ohio would obviously vote GOP by at least 15 points.

Still, Ohio is gone for the Democrats and should be lightly contested in 2020. There are no house seats that can realistically flip there, no executive offices on the ballot and no Senate election. Leave the state alone for 2020.

Barf, glad we were at least able to unseat Mia Love. I am not a fan those who sell their identity out like this to be the token in a group. Tim Scott may have slapped King’s wrist, but it is not nearly enough.

This is at least light racism against black Republicans

Don't trust anyone who thinks Bernie is more solid progressive then a women of color senator that hails from the Bay Area.

I've expressed my random desire to bang Kirsten Gillibrand on here before. Seriously, if she wants to torpedo her presidential aspirations by having an affair with a younger man, I'm waiting and ready.

It’s funny how you call Tulsi “right-wing”, when only a few republicans support her, and for mainly one reason (foreign policy).

All of her political views are progressive.

The Democrats should not only go after Trump for his reckless gambling, they should also target Mitch now. He's the person who is most to be blamed other than Trump, because the old turtle doesn't allow the senate to override a veto.

It has been the principle of both Mr. McConnell and his predecessor Mr. Reid that you do not override or attempt to override a veto of a President of your own party under any circumstances whatsoever, and if at all possible, you do not even make them have to issue a veto in the first place. It is a matter of honor and respect for the wishes of the President. Rather than breaking this bipartisan standard, the Democrats should simply cave.

Didn't the GOP-controlled Senate override Reagan's veto of a bill sanctioning apartheid South Africa in the '80s?

Yes, and that is a stain upon Bob Dole's record in terms of respect for the president when in the position of Majority Leader.

"Means of production". It's like they're not even trying to hide the obvious socialism.
Well, yeah, typically when you describe yourself as a democratic socialist you're not going to shy away from being called socialist...

If they weren't shying away from being called socialists they wouldn't call themselves "democratic" socialists.

Are you being deliberately braindead and obtuse? Democratic socialists call themselves socialists without shying away from it.

If they wanted to shy away from it, they’d call themselves social democrats or something.

Many of you guys don't understand the dynamics of New York politics.

AOC would (most likely) not win a statewide Democratic primary. New York is a strong blue state but it's not some progressive paradise.

Agree. I think under the right circumstances AOC as gubernatorial nominee could lose to a moderate Republican.

good news, right?  Car crashes take everybody, the young, the innocent, the smart.  I'm not saying drugs never take "good" people, clearly they do, and every one of them is a tragedy, but a lot of the others were tragedies long before they discovered drugs.  Tiny children die in car crashes by the thousands, tiny children never overdose on fentanyl.

Statistically speaking, the average car crash death is way more of a tragedy than the average drug overdose death, so this stat is a good thing.
