Decision 2012

Thank you! Thank you Brooklyn, thank you America! There is no other way to start this speech but with one resounding call, we broke that highest, hardest glass ceiling. We did it! You, you do it!

Millions of Americans got out to vote, and they made history tonight. From polling places in the frigid mountains of northern Maine, to down south in Hope Arkansas, people got out to send a message. They affirmed that they want change, they want a new path, and new leadership for the country we all love and cherish.

Secretary Romney loves this country to, and I received a congratulatory call from him, I wished him well, and thanked him for many years of public service. We must remember that our political opponents are not our enemies, and we don't work in government, or politics, to fight political wars, we work to serve. Secretary Romney has served.

And Senator Michael Bennet has served. Thank you Michael! For all your hard work, your service to the state of Colorado which you love so dearly. I couldn't be prouder to have you by my side tonight. Thank you Bill for always standing by me and being my amazing partner, and I know it's something special to be back at the White House. And Chelsea, I know 15 years ago as a little girl you would have dreaded even thinking about going back, but I'm so grateful for your companionship and your love.

I need to thank my campaign team for putting their heart into this campaign, and you know what, we did it everyone. You oughta be so proud. Not only did we win this election, but we started a movement. The power of change, and as Senator Obama, who is here tonight! The power of hope in this nation started a movement. Democrats picked up seats in the Senate and the House tonight. And when we get to Washington, it's time for real change. We've gotta fight for people like the Karnecki family in southern Missouri, who lost their savings in 2008, and have fought so hard to keep up for bills. Like Tom in southwestern Pennsylvania, who lost his job at the steel mill and relies on income support to feed his family. Like Shirley, the young woman who can't keep up with climbing tuitions.

We need to serve them, and we gotta get things done for them. We must affirm our core values as a nation. That we believe in a generous America, in a compassionate America, in a tolerant America open to the dreams of an immigrant's daughter who studies in our schools and pledges to our flag – to the young boy on the south side of Chicago who sees a life beyond the nearest street corner to the furniture worker's daughter in North Carolina who wants to become a doctor or a scientist, an engineer or an entrepreneur, a diplomat or maybe even a president.

I hope I've sent a message to every little girl and boy in this country that no matter where you come from. No matter your background, your income, your race, or who you love, you can be President of the United States.

We can reject the cynics and the skeptics, and aspire to a different kind of politics. Where we are optimistic and bold in our vision for the future, rather than negative and dour. Where we ask how we can work together rather than how we can sabotage each other. I hope tonight we set forth the first step in that direction. Because I know. I know, you all know we are more than just red states, blue states, we are the United States. The United States of America.

So with God's good grace, we will move forth and show the world why America is the greatest country in the world. Thank you Brooklyn, thank you America!

MADAM PRESIDENT

Senator Hillary Clinton Makes History, Elected President

Senator Hillary Clinton made history last night, carrying most of the tossup states in a historic victory. Senator Clinton spoke to an overjoyed crowd of supporters in the early hours of the morning, just after midnight, she emphasized the historic nature of her campaign, and finally a victory for Democrats after 3 bitter losses. Senator Clinton won by putting together a coalition of young people, Hispanics, African Americans, the white working class, and women. She swept tossup states in the upper Midwest with the exception of Indiana, and carried southern states not carried by Democrats for ages, such as Virginia and North Carolina. Michael Bennet helped to carry his home state of Colorado, exit polls also provide a clearer picture of results.

Women: Clinton +9
Men: Romney +1
White: Romney +8
African American: Clinton +88
Latino: Clinton +19
H. S. Graduate: Romney +1
Some College: Clinton +4
College Graduate:Clinton +3
Postgraduate: Clinton +15
Independents: Clinton +5
Democrats: Clinton +86
Republicans: Romney +80

Hillary Clinton won independents, and made gains among Southern and conservative Democrats who voted for McCain, as well as moderates who wanted change after 12 years of Republicans in the White House, and fatigue at economic stagnation. Clinton won the popular vote by about 5%, and won a comfortable electoral college win.

Hillary Clinton (WINNER): 65,764,348-51.9%
Mitt Romney: 60,683,762-46.8%

Clinton (WINNER)-328
Romney-210

Senatorial Races

Down ballot, Democrats made major gains. Democrats picked up at this moment 12 House seats, mostly out West and on the East coast. They picked up Senate seats in Indiana and Nevada, while Independent Angus King won in Maine. They held Senate seats in Nebraska, North Dakota, Montana, and Virginia. Democrats now have roughly 64 Senate seats.

Democrats: 61 (+2)
Republicans: 36 (-3)
Independents: 3 (+1)

Is Lisa Murkowski caucusing with the Democrats now in this timeline or did you intend to write 63 instead of 64?

Treat that Senate number with a bit of caution, I'm going to post a list of Senators in a bit with a clarified number.

PRESIDENT McCAIN

Clinton Meets with McCain

President-Elect Hillary Clinton and Vice President-Elect Michael Bennet have been very busy as of late, first meeting with Secretary Romney and his wife Ann, and then onto the White House, where President McCain and President-Elect Clinton shared a warm greeting. The President and Vice President-Elect met with both the President and Vice President, where they discussed a smooth transition of power, and public policy. President-Elect Clinton spoke about the need for a smooth transition, and praised President McCain for his service to the country. Around the same time, results in Florida and North Carolina were finalized.

Look at McCain vs Clinton polling for KY. Try again.

Because hypothetical polls long before an election are never painfully wrong lol

PRESIDENT McCAIN

McCain Farewell Speech: Emphasizes Civility and Patriotism

President McCain delivered his nationally televised farewell speech, extolling American values of patriotism, liberty, and constitutionalism. He spoke briefly on his administration's accomplishments, the reduced unemployment, and the reduced deficit, and the strength of America, and the defeat of foreign terrorists and despots. He mostly spoke about civility in politics, and love and pride in America. He spoke for a lengthy period about the peaceful transition, and wished President-Elect Clinton well. He also spoke candidly about his health, saying how had to deal with heart problems, and always promised to serve the American people, no matter the challenge.

"I believe I have served to the best of my ability, to defend and uphold the constitution. But my mission, the mission most dearest to me is the commitment to the troops, and I say to you today, whether I am President or not, whether we have a Republican, or we have a Democrat in the White House. The soul of our nation is with you. We are always with you."

PRESIDENT McCAIN

Hickenlooper to appoint Polis

Governor John Hickenlooper announced to press in the State Senate his pick to fill the senate seat soon to be vacated by Vice President-Elect Michael Bennet. Governor Hickenlooper gave a speech praising Senator Bennet for his work for Colorado, and said he'd make a fine Vice President. He announced that Congressman of four years, and former member of the State Board of Education Jared Polis would be appointed to the seat. Hickenlooper praised him as "principled, courageous, and a man who is a real public servant." Jared Polis is known to be a more liberal man than Hickenlooper, often seen as a consensus building centrist rather then as a liberal firebrand. In Delaware, Governor Markell announced that if Senator Biden is confirmed to the cabinet, as he is widely expected to be, Lieutenant Governor Matthew Denn would be appointed to the seat.
