Joe Biden is not the right candidate for the current Democratic Party. His voting record will come back to haunt him in both the primary and general election.

Carter opposed busing too:

https://www.nytimes.com/1972/02/17/archives/gov-carter-buoys-georgia-busing-foes-by-saying-he-may-endorse.html

So it really shouldn't be held against Biden

Yeah this will no doubt be a relevant and hot button issue in 2020.

No one will care.

I mean "Joe Biden opposed a policy that was totally abandoned decades ago because it wasn't successful at all" isn't going to be a very effective attack from any of his opponents. Busing also wasn't popular with blacks either, and a lot of people hated it for reasons that had nothing to do with race, like the commutes their kids had to take. Would you enjoy having to get up even earlier in high school in order to take an hour long bus ride to school instead of just going to the school a few blocks up the road?

But this policy was dead before most posters here were even born. Meaning for many voters its something that's not even understood. Most Millennials don't have a clue what this was, or the younger half of Gen Xers. This won't even be in the top 100 issues in the campaign if Biden runs.

Busing was a pretty unpopular policy. This hurts him how? I’d be more worried about some MeToo scandal from his past or something before this becomes an issue. This will only be an issue if an opponent is scraping the bottom of a barrel.

Joe Biden has a 40 year history of problematic votes. It will be worse than Hillary who was largely judged on her husband’s record. Biden will be having to defend his own sh-t. He needs to stay out of the 2020 race.

He definitely has a pattern between being pals with Eastland, throwing Anita Hill under the bus, and so on.

I'm from Wake County, NC. Believe me it pops up even today.

What is more concerning is not his opposition to busing, but the way he words his opposition. He isn't talking about the commute.

Almost no one supported busing in 1975.

Just even worse, in a way it paints him as a holdout to an era before common sense. I remember hearing about a 75 yr old state rep that said that African people hold marijuana longer in their system. It just points to Biden being so old.

Nah. Busing was a bad idea in 1975, it's a bad idea in 2018.

Yeah this will no doubt be a relevant and hot button issue in 2020.

No one will care.

Hillary's super predator comment was a relatively big deal during the primaries, wasn't it?

Sanders tried to make it one, but clearly it had little to no bearing on Hillary's performance with black primary voters.

It did with young black primary voters, but not with older ones. The generational gap in the black and latino communities during the primary* really went under reported IMO.

*and frankly in general, just read a FASCINATING article on BYP 100 crashing a fundraiser for Chicago City Council's Black Caucus. People just don't get the complexities present in pretty much every community these days.

Blacks aren't going to care about this either because most blacks didn't support busing either. And younger ones just like young whites don't even know what it was.

Besides to attack Biden on this another candidate would have to argue that busing was a success and a good thing and thus it should be brought back. That's not going to happen.

I'm entirely aware that Sanders did make significant inroads with younger black voters, but obviously that didn't do nearly enough to shift the black primary electorate as a whole (which is what I was referring to).

Biden's always been a moderate hero. That worked for him for a long time, but there's no place for his brand now.

With this, a lot of talk is going to be on Biden’s gaffes. I remember when Biden elevated Obama during his race for presidency. Now especially that talk is take even more negatively by society at large.
