Doesn't matter if their vote; President Trump and a Republican Senate, causes Roe's demise. They might as well oppose it.

The GOP doesn't care what the majority supports or opposes. They know that their partisan voters will show up for them no matter what they do, so they'll proceed with a SCOTUS candidate that's anti-Roe v. Wade if that's their prerogative.

The only SCOTUS judge who's explicitly anti-Roe is Thomas.  Even Alito has acknowledged it as precedent.

That doesn't mean legal abortion rights are safe with the next judge (and in most red states, access to abortion is practically nonexistent), but the judges are not idiots.  Roberts knows full well the political ramifications of overturning a popular precedent, and I doubt he wants to further compromise the image of the court by opening that can of worms.

The vulnerable women who'll be negatively impacted by the overturning of Roe v. Wade matter in all 50 states.

Just like with immigration, it probably doesn't matter.

The fact is that the GOP have voters who live and die for issues like immigration and abortion. The democrats, by and large, do not. This means that the GOP can push issues that are minority views and still get a net gain in support.

The problem is that the presidency, the House and Senate as well as the Supreme Court are gerrymandered in favor of the GOP.

Voters are leaving the rust belt and moving to CA anyways, and states that voted for Clinton will always have SSM and abortion

And yet the states where abortion is arguably most meaningful and contributing to society are the states where it'd be in most danger. Most blue state urban women with college degrees getting pregnant and married in their 30s aren't the ones who need the service to be available.

Abortion is never going to be illegal in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s health. Abortion as birth control is a different matter.

Why wouldn't it? If a fetus is a person and abortion is murder, it can't suddenly be ok if it was conceived in rape.

The Democrats of all people should understand the difference between justice and political feasibility

Abortion is feticide, not murder, and a fetus is a life, not a "person". The destruction of life is something which should be avoided even if it is not murder. But this is an unimportant distinction in this case. In the case of rape and incest, it is a matter of self-defense - it is unambiguously morally acceptable to kill in self-defense, even if the "attacker" is not morally culpable.

It could be traumatic for a woman and very detrimental to her mental health to give birth to a baby that was a result of rape.

Like I said, feasible abortions will never be illegal. But if you want to terminate your pregnancy because it would interfere with your summer vacation, then you can make the trip to another state to do that...and pay for it out of your own pocket.

>60% of Americans say they support Roe v Wade.   And from other polls, >60% of Americans say that abortion should either not be allowed or only be allowed in the first trimester.

People don't realize what Roe actually does.

Abortion is infanticide, and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
