I think other (worse) tweets got brought up in the relevant thread, but admittedly I haven't followed it too closely. But I got the sense it was pretty serious.

Ok, I found this:

That's pretty bad, but looking at the rest of the article, it appears she's moderated since then especially now that she's running for office. That's good enough for me.

OK, fair enough. It could have been a lot worse, yeah. Definitely glad Waltz and Radinovich made it.

Her antisemitic Twitter rants and apparent pro-FGM attitudes.

How is she "pro-FGM"?

False, she voted for the anti-FGM bill that passed the Minnesota House back in May 2017.

Yeah the FGM thing was thoroughly debunked.

Um, no?

http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/votes/votes.asp?ls_year=90&billnum=HF2621&session_number=0&year=2017&id=285

Omar voted for the bill. There were no significant changes to it.

Besides its not like a freshman Democrat would be capable of getting a bill significantly changed in a GOP legislature and it was passed almost unanimously, there was no need to make, concessions for extra votes.

Yeah pretty much all of the faux outrage against Omar doesn't hold up to the slightest bit of scrutiny.
It seems to be really only two people who are mad, looking at the thread.

I'm glad we're going to have somebody in congress who's tough on Israel.

We probably don't want to import that particular debate into this results thread, and my bad for inadvertently doing so because I wasn't reading the MN-5 thread.

It was my birthday yesterday, so I wasn't on the forum. But let me just say that I was fairly satisfied with how the primaries went yesterday. Walz and Evers are probably the best possible Democrats in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Furthermore, I was given some nice schadenfreude as a birthday gift with Pawlenty and Swanson losing their primaries as well as the Connecticut GOP potentially throwing away a chance to pick up the Governor's mansion, were all very fun elections to see unfold.

One thing I think some people need to be reminded of is that primary electorates on a county by county basis more so reflect the traditional and historical nature of the county rather than how it votes in general elections. We may see a sort of return to 2012-like political geography in some 2018 races but to say 2016 was a fluke and that Republicans are no longer going to win the Midwest is just plain delusion.

That is true.  I mean, Tommy Thompson did rule Wisconsin with an iron fist for over a decade, then things swung to Doyle and the Democrats.  After that, things swung to Walker and the Republicans.  I think we'll be seeing the pendulum swing yet again.

BTW, welcome back!  How are things?

They're good. Took a little break from following politics for awhile and it felt nice. Thanks.

Just some comparisons on fully-reported WI counties:

2016 Presidential vs 2018 Primary (margin):
Door: GOP +3 / DEM +10
Fond du Lac: GOP +26 / GOP +36
Walworth: GOP +20 / GOP +18

Wow. What happened with Fond du Lac beating the hell out of the trend (or was this a typo)?

Goodnight, sweet prince.

To think Sabato moved the race from Lean D to Tossup because he entered lol.

They moved it back, lol:

My God, they actually KEPT it as "toss-up" right until T-Paw lost?!?

What rubes.

Much like Kenosha, GOP pulls off a bare win in Racine (50.8-49.2); was Trump +4 in 2016.

That's actually a pretty weak swing.

GOP Primaries:

Gov

2014: 184k
2018: 311k+

Sen

Pretty meaningless once you compare them to Democratic numbers, but thanks anyways.

Might've been waiting to see who the Democratic candidate was too. Swanson vs. Pawlenty might've been a tossup.

Who wins the Midwest is going to depend on what Democrats actually do. If they keep pursuing muh Suburban Strategy Smiley Smiley Smiley and ignoring the reality that working people in this country actually live in like they did in 2016, then yeah, it won't be a fluke. If they actually go back to trying to pretend to care about that stuff though, and are smart enough to point out that the GOP's ~populism is phony, they could easily regain it.
