Meh, it’s surprisingly not an unpopular opinion to hold among the activist left, that extremists need rehabilitation rather than the death sentence/life in prison.

Those people weren't poor victims of unfair drug laws or victimized immigrants struggling to make an honest living in a hostile environment so their children can have better lives.  They're terrorists belonging to a vile organization with no place in any civilized society.  The way Omar is coddling them and implying they shouldn't receive tough prison sentences for their crimes in ridiculous, offensive, and makes a mockery of the desperate situations of people who actually deserve to be treated with leniency.  It's also an insult to the Somali community to imply - as Omar did - that giving ISIS recruits to appropriately long prison sentences is an attack on Somali values.

Yeah this is disgusting. Omar is the single worst serious candidate this year. I'd vote for almost anyone over her.

Omar is probably going to win, those 3 don’t have a shot in hell.

Yep, that's why I said "serious candidate".

Yea Omar is objectively a terrible candidate, just the optics for the Democrats would be terrible, hopefully, her democratic challenger wins.

I'd still vote for her over a Republican.

Being anti-Israel is better than being pro-death.

Cortez was horrible but somehow Omar is fine, seriously....

To be fair, this forum is the reverse from what I’ve seen although Omar’s comments on Israel are obviously more controversial. But like you said I would still vote for her over the Republican too. I’ve seen people say and/or do far worse.

I don't know if I take this completely seriously in so far as Ron Gunzberger is an equal opportunity attack dog against anybody who says anything critical of Israel (his other major negative is that he believes the McCarthyite inspired blacklists were a good idea.)  So, Ron (the person behind politics1.com isn't necessarily always the most fair minded person.  Still, otherwise Gunzberger is a fairly mainstream conservative leaning Democrat.

Omar is a radical leftist, if she gains steam, Republicans could use her and Ellison as voter motivation for Republicans, moderate Independents and working class white Democrats to turn out against her in November.

I'm talking statewide, not in the district. They could use her against other MN DFL folks.

Whether or not it’s a popular position with the leftiest activists is irrelevant, it’s a horrible look to most voters and - I must say - as someone else pointed out quite patronizing to the wonderful Somali-American community

No because no one cares. Michele Bachmann was around for 8 years and the DFL didn't pick up a single House seat during that time aside from winning back the 8th after losing it. Ellison isn't even controversial anymore and most outstate low info voters will probably think he's some Lutheran white guy with his name. Tim Walz, Lori Swanson or even Erin Murphy aren't going to cause a ruckus and one of them will be effectively leading the ticket.

Y'all need to stop with this s*it. If she wins the nomination, she's going to win the district. Nobody outside of her district has any reason to care about her. This is just another example of people on Atlas acting like everyone obsessively follows politics as much as they do and acting like the smallest most insignificant things will have wide ranging results in November.

I find it real funny that in the clown show that is American politics, people like Alex Jones and Donald Trump can get endorsed by Louis Farrakhan yet any black politician caught within a thousand mile radius of Farrakhan must have an alibi.

So how's the feeling on the ground? Is this going to be a cake walk for Omar?

Apparently, the establishment can try to stop genuinely good candidates in Kansas 3rd congressional, Michigan Governor, NY-14 and prop up the establishment candidates against the progressive challenger in a plethora of races across the country, but they can't have a decent challenge to Omar.

The "establishment" supports Omar. She literally got the support of Governor Dayton at her campaign launch.

Omar also has the backing of the Mayor of Minneapolis. Though a lot of State Reps and Sens support Anderson Kelliher.

In American politics...blacks are under much more strict scrutiny than the rest of the population. Farrakhan can endorse Trump and it not cost him any votes but any black caught within a thousand mile radius of Farrakhan better have an alibi ready.

Sorry for being annoyed that so many Democrats (including the Governor of Minnesota) don't care about blatant and vicious antisemitism. It's not like apathy about anti-Semitism could ever be harmful to my people, right?

Hey dude, Netanyahu is creating an apartheid state at the expense of Palestinians in Israel. That's a fact.
