It would depend on where you're talking about.

Yes, in big cities and prosperous areas, but in poor areas no.

No. While I support a raise of the Federal minimum wage that would then be indexed to inflation, $15 is way too high. I think $9 or $10 makes more sense.

Perhaps in incredibly expensive places like San Francisco, a $15 minimum wage could just maybe make sense.

If the COL in the area requires the minimum wage to be $15.

No, at least not raised to that much in one instance. Raise it 50 cents per year till it converges what whatever $11 in 2018 money would be.

Depends where you are talking about.

In areas like Boston, NY, Seattle, LA, Chicago.. Yes.

But in areas where you can buy a nice house for $150K, no.

Should be a state issue but should be a federal minimum at a reasonable rate

Yes, and do it instantly, and immediately tie automatic future raises to inflation right away.

No. If implemented immediately and arbitrarily, it would be a death knell for many small businesses with thin profit margins, would price unskilled, often poorer workers out of the marketplace, and lead to higher prices for consumers. This is another example of a well-intended policy that would have nearly the opposite effect it was meant to have - improving the economic outcomes of the poor and vulnerable.

Index it to inflation and cost of living.
But in any event $15 everywhere in the US regardless of where you live...that's an insane policy.

The USA is way too diverse economically for a uniform minimum wage. I recall reading somewhere that it takes $100k in Manhattan to replicate a $38k lifestyle in some low cost parts of the country.

$7.65 nationally is way too low and $15 is probably fine in major metros like NYC, LA and the Bay area. The issue is lower cost areas. I'd guess something like $10-13 is an adequate balance in most of the country, between supporting workers and avoiding businesses switch to capital to avoid overpriced labour

I largely concur. (though $10-13 is more skewed to the low side of what would seem to make sense)

Raise the federal minimum to 12.50 and peg it to inflation.

I support an increase in the minimum wage and I'm not all that picky about the dollar amount. $15 an hour seems a bit high, but "fight for twelve" just doesn't have the same ring.

Not everywhere. Somewhere $10-$12 as a national base (tied to inflation), and higher, up to $15, in areas with high CoL.

it's weird that there are people that still think a nationwide minimum wage that is the exact same is a good idea.  This should be a "by county" thing, not a nation wide or even state wide thing.  No way the min wage should be the same in Omaha and Scotsbluff.

I support a minimum wage that is 70% of a county's median wage
Sometimes that's over $15, sometimes it's well under.

Nope, bad idea except maybe in places like San Francisco or Manhattan.  But Seattle, according to some analysis, is already seeing ill effects at $13.

A much better approach would be higher taxes on profits, redistributed through EITC. That could have the same overall cost for businesses, but it wouldn't fall disproportionately on sectors/businesses that rely on high levels of labor investment.
