Cattlemen are trying to get ahead of factory meat by asking the govt to make "meat" mean a very specific thing.  Like they've done in the past with "cheese", France has famously done with "Champagne", or like the "Egg" people did with Just Mayo a few years ago.

generally negative.although if something is region specific like the champagne example then i might understand

There's nothing wrong per se with product identity standards, tho they can be taken too far.

Still, I wouldn't mind revoking the Budweiser trademark and allowing anyone to offer a Budweis-style beer.

I was going to ask, do you not have any form of designated origin status for food products in the US?

It is quite popular in Europe, because people like to know that what they are buying is actually what they think they are buying.
