Berlusconi, for all his flaws, isn't an out-and-out literal fascist (nor did he literally pioneer fascist governance and provide a model for Hitler's Germany). Berlusconi obviously sucks but this one isn't difficult

Mussolini fought against the mafia, and Berlusconi literally is the mafia

He also fought against decency, human rights, and freedom. HP.

and that's all you know about these two men?

If everybody is going one way and you think it's the other way, but you only know two things about the subject, it's better to look a few things up before you post something that makes you look stupid.

Misread the poll as "who was better". Mussolini was worse.

The more interesting question is Berlusconi Vs Andreotti or Craxi.

This. As corrupt, insane and stupid Berlusconi is, he's certainly not even close to the actual fascist.

Voted for Mussolini being worse, but I have to say this: Berlusconis, i.e. those who do not have the interest of the population at heart, make corrupt systems even more corrupt and rotten, and manage to win people's confidence like snakes only to line their own pockets while doing absolutely nothing for the people or the country, create the perfect breeding ground for dictators like Mussolini.

I'd like to think Berlusconi would have had enough decency not to side with Hitler.

That's probably not a good hope to have, since Berlusconi would probably do whatever is expedient to him at the time (and if his relationships to Putin and Gaddafi are any indications, he doesn't have qualms about cozying up with dictators). Still, the fact remains that he didn't, and Mussolini did.

And FDR didn't side with Hitler, he did the opposite...wait a second...

Mussolini.  Berlusconi may be a crook, but that's nothing compared to the things Mussolini did.
