And that's why I hate the fringe left everywhere. The guys want to burn at the stake senators from Alabama and West Virginia for not having a perfect 100% liberal voting record, but at the same time have no problem to support Chelsea Manning, who is partying together with neo-Nazis, or anti-choice candidates.

It reminds me of our own SYRIZA people who accused socialist Papandreou of governing like Pinochet and at the same time they withheld any serious criticism against Golden Dawn and its thugs.

It's odd we have so many Democrats who have no real political views other than wanting the Democratic Party to be as right-wing as they possibly can without being totally indistinguishable from the GOP.

It's odd that we have so many "socialists" who have no real political views other than trying to get as many Republicans elected as possible.

Alt-centrists can't explain why voting with a man they think is a Russian Manchurian candidate makes any sense, so they rely on  personal attacks.

Would alt-centrists even oppose Trump if he weren't crude in his language or had a history of being a racist and misogynist?

The only ones reflexively attacking or defending anyone here are centrists and liberals, who are excusing a Democrat’s crappy vote on the basis that it was... completely meaningless? Brilliant. Truly.

Jones should already be in everyone’s dog house for his inexplicable spying vote, but it’s clear that precious few people here will care about the substance of his voting record over the next few years.

Why am I unsurprised that Joey has a knowledge of politics comparable to that of a bag of sand?

He explicitly made a promise to his constituency that he'd help fund CHIP. He even reaffirmed it in his victory speech FFS. Voting against CHIP funding (even if CHIP was being held hostage by Republicans in order to avoid saving 900,000 people from deportation) literally a month after being elected on explicitly doing the opposite of that would be bad optics at best and using voters for their votes and subsequently discarding them when no longer needed (if, as you people say, he has no shot in 2020) at worst.

This is getting silly. Doug Jones was never going to be a darling of the progressives.
He prevented Roy Moore from ascending into the federal government, that was his job.
Not unlike Joe Manchin, if he votes on the right side of an issue now and then, that's a bonus.

The base won't hold this against him, but white Alabamians might. He needed some whites, especially college-educated whites, to win and he'll need them again in 2020.
What? White Alabamians would probably be more likely to vote for him if he votes like a centrist.

Have we tried running a progressive in Alabama?

I'm pretty sure it would be as effective as running a Klansman in Bronx.

Funny enough, in Idaho, the last 2 Democratic Senators were progressives. I bet a lot of non progressive Democrats have lost, but they elected Glen Taylor, and Frank Church, the former of whom was actually on the 1948 Progressive party ticket.

Yeah, times have changed. Maybe Frank Church could be elected dog catcher today. In Blaine County.
