This is still going on? Can we just ban every maroon avatar on the site (bar Centrist, Scarlet, and Joyce) and be done with it?

I'm all for this.

Damnit, every time someone responds to my venom, I'm reminded of a maroon avatar I actually like. Angry

NOT in. You can't just ban somebody because you find them slightly annoying, wrong, or disagree with them. That is bs, and I stand with the maroon avatars in their right to be just as much as anybody else.

FWIW, I don't have anything against releasing their most vulnerable Senators to vote for cloture, as long as they have 40 other Senators to oppose it. The problem is when the Senate Majority Leader elected from New York is too chickensh*t to seriously whip the votes for the shutdown.

Is anyone surprised?

He provided the critical 60th vote on cloture for allowing Trump to spy on everyone.

What does this have to do with aligning with Sanders or Warren he's literally one of 5 Dems to vote with Trump

Disgusting. Don't let the neoliberals fool you into thinking this vote didn't actually affect anything. Hopefully calling him a centrist blob on Twitter will change his mind.

This is completely meaningless in the long run, why are we arguing about this?

Because some left wingers think that anybody who's to the right of Saul Alinsky is a Nazi.
This entire discussion is why I am annoyed by Sandernistas, despite actually supporting many of the same policies as them. It seems that when given the choice of having:

Ideologically pure candidates lose to Republicans
OR
People who vote against our wishes once and a while but who are otherwise reliable Democratic votes beat Republicans, who will almost never vote for anything we want

many maroon avatars and some Democrats would choose the former over the latter, which is, to me, absurd.

Let Jones, Tester, Heitkamp, McCaskill, Manchin, and Donnelly be. They need to keep their seats. If they go off the deep end, then we can talk, but if they're only casting symbolic votes because of CHIP funding (and Tester didn't even do that) that actually has no real effect, leave them alone.
this.... progressives are often completely unrealistic. That’s why they can’t win sh*t; not cause of some rigged dnc or media.

No, I meant he was expected to be a "blue dog" like Heitkamp or Manchin who is usually one of the few Democrats to vote with the GOP.

I still think it was a bad vote.

It's odd we have so many Democrats who have no real political views other than wanting the Democratic Party to be as right-wing as they possibly can without being totally indistinguishable from the GOP.

One gets re-elected by voting for what is best for the community from which you are elected.

So I take it you’ll go back to Birmingham with him and explain why he voted against CHIP for the rural black communities who use it in favor of people who are not citizens?

Doug Jones does not represent California. His voters did not send him there to vote against their interests in favor of non-citizens.

This is precisely it.

In OUR country, citizens come before non-citizens, and legal non-citizens come before non-citizens illegally here.  Ordinary Americans ought to be outraged over the fact that the Democratic Party in the Senate, for incredibly stupid reasons, chose to vote to allow the government to shut down over an issue that involves the rewarding of illegal non-citizens (albeit a group with an unusual situation not of their own making, but of their parents' making).

I favor working it out to keep the Dreamers in America, but not at the expense of a solution that would not deter future people from attempting to crash our borders on the theory that once they get here, "something will be worked out".  It is in the interest of the citizens of the United States that our government keep running, its bills be paid, and its public servants be paid their due wages timely.  If this means the Dreamers be deported, that's too bad, but so be it.  Americans come first.   That, by the way, is the approach of Mexico toward it's illegal immigrants from Central America; Mexicans come first.

Shutting down the government was both wrong and irresponsible when the Freedom Caucus and Tea Party imbeciles shut the government down in 2013.  It was wrong when Newt Gingrich and his band of lunatics did it during the Clinton Administration.  And it's wrong now.  Period.

Doug Jones wasn't elected to be progressive, he was elected to keep a child molester who thinks Muslims are secretly plotting to bring down the American government and gays are equivalent to animal fyckers out of office.

It's odd that we have so many "socialists" who have no real political views other than trying to get as many Republicans elected as possible.

Joining the likes of Manchin, Heitkamp, Donelley and McCaskill in voting for Trump's short term spending bill, and not for principle or in support of Dreamers. Is Dopey Doug trying to win over the white Alabamans who eagerly supported an accused pedophile over him? If Dopey Doug keeps this up, black and latino voters will stay home and he'll lose badly in 2020.

Black Alabamans don't give a crap about the Dreamers and they would vote for Jones even if he supported the RAISE Act.

Alabama Democrats care far more about CHIP than DACA. News at 11.

As a black person, I can definitively say that the concept of job security nativism amongst black people is overrated, and that we tend to be much more empathetic with the struggles of undocumented immigrants.

Republicans hold all the advantages for now. America voted in a near-dictatorship in 2016, and the best that any liberal can hope for is for failure of the legislative agenda of Donald Trump.

I agree that nativism among Blacks is overstated. They mostly just don't care.
