This map is both more aggressively gerrymandered for the dems and at the same time less gerrymandered. Dauphine is sunk without any reason, unless the seat if for Tim Holden's return. Multiple seats change drastically like the 5th and the 12th. Erie is also sunk, without any good reason.

Map presented by Republican Activists:

Not actually a bad map, albeit a right leaning one. The two deal breakers with it are the continued sinking of Reading, and Cartwright getting drawn out. beyond that, this could have had hope it it was the original republican submission.

The biggest sticking points looking at the maps is whether

1.  Reading goes to the Philly Metro or Lancaster/Berks

2. Southern Monroe goes to PA-15 or PA-17

I'm finding it weird that literally ALL the maps so far split Allegheny three ways.

It was nice of the Senate Dems to put where the current incumbents live on the map. I'll have to see where folks would end up on Oryxslayer's map, which is my favorite so far.

They should make the districts more competitive in the west.

@Oryxslayer: Did you find where you officially submit your map? You really should get it in proper. It's such a sexy map Sad

PA-05 and PA-11 would change more than anything else in a fair map.

It may have its faults, but it's still far better than the map produced by the PA GOP. At the minimum, there should be some territory swapped between the successors of PA-05 and PA-09 to make them somewhat more compact.

Thats not saying much - ~90% of maps are better than both the previous map and the one the legislature just drew. So far: I have yet to see a map that tops the one I previously drew:

This is by far the best map, I really hope The Pennsylvania Supreme Court adopts something similar to this.

I agree. In my internal writeup I kept track of incumbent residencies, everyone got their own district on my map except Rothfus who gets screwed by the migrating 12th district. It also appears Saccone isn't in my 18th - I could have sworn he lived Elizabeth Borough rather than Elizabeth township. oops.

On cutting Allegheny - the triple cut is probably going to stay. When the court orders that the number of counties be cut be kept to a minimum, it becomes advisable for the map drawer to push cuts into counties that are already getting chopped. Its what we have done here in our plans with Berks/Chester. Unless Allegheny gets pared with Butler, PA-09 or or PA-12 will need to take some of the population from the county, lest another county get cut.

No. As we figured originally, there doesn't appear to be public submission and DKE is twisting the truth as usual. The way I sent it in was to the masters stanford email, and I wouldn't be surprised is it was opened and then deleted. I name dropped a couple political science bigwigs at stanford who I have a personal relationship with, but I doubt that we keep the map inside his relevance.

Why don’t you submit this to the court?

Here's there brief: It looks like they had the help of a lawyer.

So I could send it there to the firm.

I personally believe that given the choice, it is better to split 2 Counties once each, than 1 County twice. Of course this is irrelevant when we are dealing with cases such as Philadelphia where it has to be split twice.

The 10th looks funny, and should swap some precincts with the 11th, but I agree this is the best map to date.

The 12/03 border there is dumb. Splits an extra unnecessary County.

Agreed. Of all the partisan maps, this is the best. Hell, SEPA looks remarkably similar to my map, albeit PA-07 here heads into Montgomery rather than Philly. That said, it is not without its many faults, there are an excessive number of cuts in the west, and the PA-10 Luzurne cut is particularly attrocious.

Two other things. One, there appears to be a strong push from the dems to resurrect the old 17th, pairing Schyllkill with Dauphine and the near dem-leaning bits of Cumberland. The sole goal is no doubt to allow Tim Holden to return triumphant to the open seat. Second, there doesn't appear to be a drive for L+LM in the wyoming valley since nobody wants to create to spirally PA-10. Sad.

That could be to keep more of I-79 in PA-12,  I'm seeing it's kinda common on the maps they're submitting.

I really wish people wouldn't randomly gut Montgomery County.
