I left out options like "only if Trump loses in a landslide" because it's obvious she could win under such circumstances.

Not really unless she can sway critical voters in the countryside.

Of course she could, it's nearly three years till election day. If an election were held between Trump and Warren right at this moment, I think she would win Arizona with over 50% of the vote.

Can she? Of course.
Would she, in actuality? I doubt it.

If Trump could flip The Rust Belt, no reason this can't happen. Hillary got fairly close despite a last minute run there...did better there than North Carolina even.

That said, she'd probably only take a plurality.

Yes. Arizona is going Democratic in 2020.

Trump was only able to get a plurality in Arizona and Hillary made it competitive. Democrats could make it competitive again.

Dems need to focus on winning back the Rust Belt and Florida before trying to win a state like Arizona.

Less than 10% of people in Arizona live in rural areas so idk what you mean by "countryside".

I don't think Warren wins in AZ in a close election. She doesn't seem to do very well with hispanics (Look at the recent PPP polls), and she may have trouble with a couple of socially liberal fiscal moderates/conservatives rich subarbanites of which there are a fair amount of in Arizona.

Literally anywhere outside Phoenix/Mesa/Scottsdale.

It's definitely possible.  I'd rate Arizona a tossup in a Warren vs. Trump race, but Warren isn't the strongest candidate.  The state would be at least tilt D with Harris, Gillibrand, Biden, Booker, etc.

All Warren (or any democratic nominee) needs to do to win AZ is run ads on the airwaves about how trump pardoned criminal Joe Arpaio. This is still a HUGE local issue in Arizona and will be basically forever. Arpaio is such a hated man here.

Warren could do it but there are stronger candidates for AZ

Gillibrand would def be the best candidate Imo to win AZ, she could have an appeal to white suburban moms, in Maricopa county. Her plus Arpaio ads would make it lean D, anyone else tossup.

Yeah, Gillibrand as far as I can tell is Hillary without the baggage. As long as she hasn't sent any suspicious emails, she should win nationallly and have a good chance at AZ.

Like Trump needed to win back Virginia or Colorado before even thinking about Michigan?

If the Dems win Flake's Senate seat, I'd say there's a chance it could be in play. But we'll have to wait and see.

Pictured, the small, quiet town on the Arizona countryside in which I live my quiet rural life:

and there's also (smaller, but still) Flagstaff, Yuma, Sierra Vista, Prescott, Kingman, Sedona, Mirana, Nogales, etc etc etc. We aren't Illinois. I'm not sure if a single part of the state is "countryside" in the way you're probably thinking.

Does Warren really strike you as the type of candidate who can flip red states and GOP leaning voters? She's a down the line Massachusetts liberal who is extremely polarizing.

She beats Trump by 9 points in the polls which would be more than enough to flip it.
