Maintain the current rules; a president is limited to two four-year terms.

There's always casual talk about if the term limit structure for presidents should be reformed. I'm curious as to what Atlas thinks about it.

WI: Limit the president to two consecutive four-year terms.

Out of the choices in the poll, option two I guess.

WI: One Two year term, just like the House OR one Six year term just like the Senate.

I think the number of years that a president can serve should be consistent with an amount that a congressman serves. 12 years is a good number that works for all three. 3 presidential terms, 2 senatorial terms, 6 house terms. Either all of them should have term limits or none of them should.

None of them should.

Do you realize that with your proposal, a politician could still spend 48 years of their life holding office in the federal government: 12 years in the House, followed by 12 years in the Senate, followed by 12 years as Vice President, then finally 12 years as President? That system does not eliminate "career politicians."

Maintain the current rule. But only because the alternatives presented are worse.

The best solution would be five-year-terms, limited to two consecutive elections.

That would mess up the whole process. Every other election would be an off-year. Unless we changed the senate and house terms as well.

I never said anything about career politicians, but it would make it so someone can't hold a particular office forever.

And its just an idea, don't get your panties in a bunch.

There is no need for term limits on the Presidency. That job is stressful and ages a person so much, most Presidents would term limit themselves and just step aside after two or three terms for that reason alone. FDR only sought terms 3 and 4 because of the war.

I strongly support term limits on the president, but I'm fine if the president serves somewhere between 6-12 years. Possibly the greatest threat to a democratic republic with a presidential system is the possibility of a president amassing too much power, and term limits limit the likelihood of that occurring.
