Lol this isn't even remotely racist.
This will be just like Cramer's "Akin comments" that Atlas told me would guarantee Heitkamp an easy re-election.

I doubt anyone said that in the age of Trump. You Republicans celebrate sexual abuse now.

Well it won't be just like it, since every reply to this thread has said that it won't have an impact.

Actually tons of people here did say that (I wasn't one of them.)

Mississippi had more lynchings than any other state. Would she have made that comment if she was running against Brandon Pressley or Jim Hood? Probably not. It is a racist comment because she is trying to let extremely racist white people what is at stake.

Cindy claims it's an "old saying." I've never heard it in my life, but I will concede that there have been times in my life where I've been surprised to learn a phrase I'd never heard before has turned out to be a thing rural Mississippians really do say.
Just like "monkey this up."

It's an old saying, but they also used to publicly lynch Black people in olden times so....

This does not matter in times of hyperpartisanship. It rather helps you with rural turnout, see DeSantis, Ron.
Again:
CHS could be found in bed with a living girl, a dead boy or as dominatrix whipping Phil Bryant, and still win this. She only has to say one sentence "I am 100 % with Mr Trump". If she would be found whipping Barack Hussein Obama or Andrew Gillum instead, this would be something completely different. ;-)

Sure, it is an old saying. I am not sure I would go around peddling old Mississippi sayings, though: won't matter in MS, of course, but that is exactly what is very wrong in MS.

Just curious (as I've never heard this before)... but if its an old saying in Mississippi...What exactly did it mean? (or does it mean)?

+100. It really may help with white Mississippi electorate. And she doesn't need Black votes for victory...

There's a somewhat interesting generational divide here:

Young people hear "public hanging" and think racist lynchings.
Older people hear "public hanging" and think outlaw executions in the Wild West.

So? Westerns were very popular for quite a time, especially in the South.

I‘d be interested as well. If the saying has nothing to do with racism, what does it mean ?

No matter if you think it’s racist or not, that’s still not a good look for you to be a public figure saying something as ambiguous as that when not only your state is close to 40% black, but you know the nation has a “liberal bias” towards things like this (from the perspective of someone like CHS, of course). I’ve never heard of that phrase before, btw.

Mississippi Republican makes racist comment, gets easily elected. Is this even worthy of a thread?

She's just trying to consolidate the McDaniel voters.
