In 2018, CA Supreme Court Justice Carol Corrigan (R) is up for retention. A Republican on the court faces a retention election under a Democratic governor. Does Corrigan win, or does a new Democratic justice get appointed?

Is it a partisan election? If her party affiliation is on the ballot, she probably loses. If not, she probably wins because of the general bias in favor of keeping justices unless they're known to be bad.

Nope, judges are listed as nonpartisan (For state & local races)

Good. IMHO, it's bad when letter in parenthesis after person's name determines his/her chances, not his/her qualification...

It's a nonpartisan election, but it's known Corrigan was appointed by a GOP governor.
