Who else could we see retire? What are the other conceivable big names out there who's retirement would be positive for the Democrats?

Meehan (PA-7), Coffman (CO-6), and Frelinghuysen (NJ-11) seem like possibilities. I'm hesitant to name any of the Reps in the California swing districts, because they're all either young (Denham, Knight, Valadao) or strongly allied with Trump (Rohrabacher, Issa, and to a lesser extent Royce).

Some possible choices:

Young in Alaska At-Large
Upton in MI-6
King in NY-02
LoBoindo in NJ-02
Frelinghuysen in NJ-11
Cook in CA-08
Kelly in PA-03 (pretty old)
Walberg in MI-07
Marchant in TX-24
Royce in CA-39
Lance in NJ-07
Freshman Bergman in MI-01

Obviously, some of these are nearly-safe R, but there are always some surprising seats to flip.

I feel like Peter King may retire but probably won't. But his retirement would be symbolic.

The first that comes to mind is John Katko (NY-23), since he seems pretty similar to Reichert: suburban, voted against AHCA, and from a district Clinton won. However, he's only been in congress since 2015, so it would seem premature for him to retire.

Dent is getting a serious primary challenger, so maybe he'd rather retire than face a low-turnout primary where the electorate is the most conservative and Trumpish.

I think Dems would still be the underdogs to pick that seat up.  It was gerrymandered to cut out the Dems base in Allentown and Bethlehem and is fairly Republican downballot.

David Valadao?   He's young yeah, but still, maybe.

He might be getting sick of the GOP's anti-immigrant stance.

So Dent is gone. Who is next?

I suspect Peter King and Frank LoBoindo are going to decide to call in quits soon...

Peter Roskam? He's not very old, but he may want to avoid a tough re-election.

Age-wise, Frelinghuysen and LoBiondo seem (almost) ripe for retirement.

And Frelinghuysen talking sh**t to people isn't putting him on many people's Christman lists.

However, I think Lance is the most likely of the three.  He seems like the more moderate of the three, and the one who dislikes Trump the most.

Didn't want to create a new thread for what is currently speculation, but since it would be retirement from Congress to take on an executive position:

McCaul emerges as a leading candidate for DHS secretary

McCaul's appointment would be a lifeline to Cruz. I think McCaul would've been his likeliest (serious) and strongest primary challenger.

His district might be carved up anyway due to redistricting come next year so good news for him that he has a new job possibly lined up.

My thinking is that anyone who has served at least four terms or is in their late 50s or older will be tempted to retire rather than face a potentially tough midterm election.

Young in Alaska-AL
Royce in CA-39
Rohrabacher in CA-48
Tipton CO-3
Coffman in CO-6
DeSantis in FL-6
Ross FL-15
Buchanan FL-16
Diaz-Balart in FL-25
Roskam in IL-6
Upton in MI-6
Walberg in MI-7
Paulsen in MN-3
LoBiondo in NJ-2
Lance in NJ-7
Frelinghuysen in NJ-11
King in NY-2
Reed in NY-23
Chabot OH-1
Turner OH-10
Kelly in PA-3
Meehan PA-7
Culberson TX-7
Sessions TX-32

I'm surprised Rohrabacher hasn't announced his retirement yet.

In what world is Lance more moderate than LoBiondo?
