One of the NJ trio of Lance/Frelinghuysen/LoBindo will be next, mark my words.

Age-wise, Frelinghuysen and LoBiondo seem (almost) ripe for retirement.
And Frelinghuysen talking sh**t to people isn't putting him on many people's Christman lists.

However, I think Lance is the most likely of the three.  He seems like the more moderate of the three, and the one who dislikes Trump the most.
In what world is Lance more moderate than LoBiondo?

Or Frelinghuysen, who is pro-choice, IIRC.

If Leonard Lance retires, Michael Ferguson could run for his old seat again and could win. Either Ferguson or Bramnick.

If Frelinghuysen retires, Jay Webber may run.

If LoBiondo retires, Don Guardian may run.

Why would any of them run in a Trump midterm

LoBiondo is pretty hardline on his pro-life stance, and is the only one of the three to oppose same-sex marriage. He did not, however, vote for the AHCA, which Frelinghuysen did. It's between those two who is more conservative.

As for LoBiondo's retirement, he would seem to be among the most likely to. He's been in the house since the 1994 R wave and is 71. Fred Upton is a similar case.

I'm surprised Rohrabacher hasn't announced his retirement yet.

nah Rohrabacher strikes me as the kind of guy who would stay in congress until he is physically removed.

According to Jonathan Tamari (political writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer), LoBiondo is NOT retiring, and neither is Meehan (PA-7).

If true that's great news.

Looking down the list of most senior house members made me wish every Democrat elected before 2000 decided to retire at once. We'd lose some good ones in the mix sure but 90% of that group is pure trash that is just bogging the caucus down at this point.

Does that include Senators who served in the house before 2000 and then made the jump to the Senate, like Schumer or Sanders?

Fred Upton is sending out RSVP emails with an interesting logo at the top, seemingly hinting at a statewide run.

The Senate I have less of an issue with.

Would he help make a senate race against Stabenow more competitive?

He'd be a safer option than Kid Rock, him or Robert Young would be good candidates.

I don't think the GOP's candidate in Michigan much matters.

It'd go from Super Safe D (Kid Rock) to somewhere between Likely/Safe D with Upton.
