Joe Manchin is one sorry motherf***er. Congratulations on selling your soul to win an election.

What else would you have expected? At this point, it's pretty clear to me that the Democratic Party wants all of its candidates to be in step with every element of the national agenda. Such an agenda will not help them recover the ground that they have lost in places like West Virginia.

No sh**t Manchin doesn’t like Trump. If he’s fortunate enough to be re-elected, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn a 180 and go full on Claire McCaskill in his voting behavior. I doubt he’ll run again in 2024

Apparently Manchin also hates Mitch McConnell more than perhaps any other Senator, lol.
That has something to do about WVU football IIRC.

Don't the Republicans do the same thing though, for the most part?

Yes they do. Ideological purism in both parties has become a serious problem.

Then what is the point having a Democrat (vs letting a Republican win) if the end result vote is going to be the same almost 100% of the time?

Manchin endorsed Hillary in the primary, which wasn't exactly a genius move in WV.

This part isn't true. Manchin has voted about 60% of the time with Trump, far less than the >90% record of most Republicans. What I mean through my comments is that it is better to have a Senator who agrees with you some or half of the time, rather than one who rarely agrees with you at all. And many of the posters on this forum seem to desire no one but left-leaning partisans to be the ones making the decisions. Moreover, many of the posters here seem to think that writing off entire regions of the country "is a good thing". Republican partisans are guilty of these same kinds of errors, as well, as you can easily see if you go to conservative comment boards.

To be fair, we’ll most likely see that happen with every red state Democrat, not just Manchin.
I'm not convinced he will do that. He didn't seem to after being reelected last time.

Heidi was once voting with Obama 95% of the time, its not impossible, though Manchin isnt a likely contender for the role.

I get that Manchin has to vote with Trump some of the time, but it's still pretty pathetic. He could've voted 'no' without changing the outcome, and still could have been able to point to many votes of his that could prove that he's not a die-hard liberal. The fact that he chose to cowardly play politics instead of showing dignity in a moment like this really doesn't speak well of him.

Honestly, I think that the 50,923 Clinton voters in WV-03 will have extremely low turnout this year. Probably less than 20% of them show up.

I hope Manchin loses now. It's important that he does to show red state democrats that being a quisling doesn't help you.

Yeah, and then we can lose all of them and be sitting around the low 40's for Senate seats. Makes sense!

Remember the ACA would be gone if Manchin wasn't Senator.

Everyone can't govern like a far left Democrat or Socialist in these red states. Any Democrat that wants to get rid of someone who supports Trump 60% of the time for someone who would support him >95% of the time is shortsighted.

I still think Manchin narrowly loses, but there is a decent path to win now.

Hot damn son!

Asked if he thought there was a "still place in the Democratic Party for you after this," Manchin looked at the reporter with a smile and answered, "I'm just a good old West Virginia boy." He then walked away.

I keep seeing a couple of people every now and then yelling Mingo for Morrisey, but call me crazy but I think that Mingo County is basically a lock for Manchin.

Manchin will still win. He’s popular with several Trump voters. The Dems should focus more on Heitkamp.
