I'll just note that Cleland wasn't saved by voting for Iraq back in 2002.

I feel so sorry for Manchin because he is having to throw away his dignity and french kiss Trump’s rear every day just to stay in the race. Hopefully it pays off and he wins, just a month more Joe and then you are free regardless of the outcome. Heck, even his own sister says it’s absolutely humiliating, but he’s gotta and he is doing it for the good of this country. Even when roasting Morrisey he still has to praise Trump, even when he comes to WV to try to roast Manchin.

He can kiss T***p's ass as much as he wants as long as he votes the right way. If he doesn't, though, f**k him.

Is that suppose to be some sort of atmospheric number for a President showing up in a place where he has a 60% approval rating? Seems a tad low if anything.

WV is a pretty small state.

That's true, but at the same time some of those people could've come down from Ohio or Pennsylvania for the rally. Really, all I'm saying is that, to me, 7,000 doesn't seem like the eye-popping number 2016 was making it out to be.

I'm guessing that a majority of the crowd was from Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio.

To be fair, 7,000 is not a lot, this was exurban Pittsburgh, I expected a lot more.

The rally was in the backyard of Bob Murray's company.  He probably required his employees to attend and I'm actually not even joking about that.

Wheeling is a pretty small city, only around 27k people, so it is pretty impressive. Side note, Wheeling is where I met that cute guy in WV during my road trip. Smiley

Ok, I'm convinced you've never been to WV if you're really gonna call Wheeling "exurban Pittsburgh."

Really, arresting them, sheesh...

I don’t often disagree with Manchin, but I’m afraid we do here.

Wow, Manchin actually hit Trump a little more and tweeted this cartoon where Trump looks all weird

I don't actually think Manchin likes Trump, just licking his feet for reelection.

No sh**t Manchin doesn’t like Trump. If he’s fortunate enough to be re-elected, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn a 180 and go full on Claire McCaskill in his voting behavior. I doubt he’ll run again in 2024

He almost certainly won't run in 2024 if he wins re-election. He almost retired this cycle after all (he had to be convinced by his own caucus to run for re-election), and he clearly hates the toxic environment that is 21st century Washington, DC.

It would be great if he just started voting like he was from Hawaii once the election campaign is over. It would nuke his popularity but it wouldn't matter anyway since the seat is Safe R in 2024 no matter who wins this year.

Apparently Manchin also hates Mitch McConnell more than perhaps any other Senator, lol.

You can thank McConnell's maneuvering to get the University of Louisville into the ACC and direct negative campaigning against the University of West Virginia for that.

To be fair, we’ll most likely see that happen with every red state Democrat, not just Manchin.

Manchin's vote was spineless, but this will probably only hurt Morrisey. Might be time to move this from Lean to Likely D.

I don't understand what some people on the left seem to want from Manchin. He didn't announce that he would vote yes until after Collins had already gotten Kavanaugh to 50 votes. If Collins voted no, he likely would have as well, and Kavanaugh would not have been confirmed. This is not on Manchin in any way. People seem to not understand that he is running in West by god Virginia. Manchin is a Democrat. If he wanted to be a Republican, he could have long since switched party, and things would be much easier for him. Yet he has not done so.

If we want Senators who can simply vote to do the right thing without worrying about political considerations, then it is pretty simple, we need to create new states to un-rig the American electoral system.
