Morons who think MUH COAL is the solution to all of WV's problems vs sociopaths who actively rejoice at the prospect of an entire State getting bled dry... God this thread is the worst of Atlas.

I certainly do not want WV to bleed dry of opportunity. I do not want miners to die for no reason except for greed... that is something most everyone can agree on, though.

There's no sense in which West Virginia having two million people instead of 400,000 is a policy goal that we should distort our economy towards. In the current economy, two million people is an unsustainably high number for a state with little major industries, and the population there is only that high because of inertia and zoning barriers. A state cannot exist long-term solely off of welfare and human misery.
A government that actually cared about human suffering would not try to save West Virginia by restoring coal jobs, which are awful in some many different ways. It would try to save West Virginians by breaking down the towering barriers to regional mobility we've lifted. If that means Mingo County becomes a ghost town, then that means Mingo County becomes a ghost town.

I wasn't talking about you, don't worry.

On the other hand, the poster above, while not actively malicious like other red avatars, is the quintessential example of the Coastal Liberal who just doesn't take seriously the concerns of people who aren't like him.

Do you want people to prosper or do you want states to prosper?

I feel like Montana and West Virginia are the two races which lean Democratic right now because Republicans kind of fumbled the ball but where there’s still potential for a GOP upset. Tester has a much higher floor than Manchin but also a much lower ceiling, so it’s hard to tell which state is more winnable for the GOP.

I disagree; Manchin has a higher ceiling. If the WV race continues on it's path and the national GOP continues to stop putting resources, Manchin wins by about 15. New batch of polls yesterday had him leading 54-41 and 56-40.

If he means the ones that were added to the 538 poll database yesterday, they're old: SurveyMonkey from June 11 - July 2.  538 has been adding old polls in batches, which can cause unnecessary jumps in the heart rate until you check the dates. Wink

A good indication that this race is very competitive.

Manchin and Morrisey agree to two debates

https://joemanchinwv.com/manchin-accepts-two-debates/

I don’t like Morrisey but at least he has guts to debate unlike Miller.

Any thread about WV should have a sign over it that says "Abandon all pearl clutching, ye who enter here"

And it's not the entire state, as I've established why the East panhandle and Morgantown should be OK while the rest of the state becomes Japan with much shorter life spans.

The level of bare-faced sleaziness and corruption by Republicans is at another level.

Anybody have any idea when we get another WV poll? It's been a while. Rn, I'd say Manchin would be up 49-44.
