Blankenship probably finishes 3rd in the primary with about 15-20%

Accolades for not buying into the hype.

Democrats should be concerned if a radical progressive is taking 30% of the vote against a hugely entrenched incumbent in West Virginia.... the GOP should be happy that 80% of the Republican Party rejected a psychopath. Morrissey can win this election.

It's stupid how the headlines are "Blankenship loses" instead of "Morrissey wins" or something like that.

I was amazed by the number of people who seemed to genuinely believe that Blankenship would win the primary, even though it was pretty obvious all along that he wouldn't.

They WANTED him to win. Welcome to Atlas

I want Joe Manchin to be rewarded for being a good senator that works with both sides of the aisle. Why is that a bad thing?

Blankenship would make Manchin be reelected easier, and hopefully more moderates would run.

The consensus before the primary was Blakenship Likely D, Morrisey Lean D, Jenkins Tossup. So, not a bad night for candidates as far as R's or D's go.

I guess that's one way of looking at it.  Shame that didn't happen two years ago.

That's generally what happens when a state gets increasingly red.

Yeah, some DINOs finally switched parties. But there's still a lot of DINOs still yet to switch as shown by Paula Jean's primary %.

Turnout in the Democratic primary was low most likely because Manchin didn't face a serious challenge. Look at NJ-GOV 2017, the state only voted to the right of its Presidential election vote because Democratic turnout was low in a state where Phil Murphy was heavily favored.

Looks remarkably similar to Manchin vs Raese in 2010.

Ultimately, I think Manchin will beat Morrisey by high single digits, maybe low double digits.

Ya, it's easily explainable. Almost all those Mahetan types are still registered D's, and those Mingo people who voted in the GOP primary yesterday are comprised of the ones who own the mines, a few stray idiots, and Daddy Don's friends and family. I mean we are literally talking a few hundred votes people.

No. That is a really bad take. This was a great night for Patrick Morrissey, and mediocre at worst but honestly pretty good night for Manchin. Morrissey is much more beatable than Jenkins, but Blankenship put the GOP establishment in a position where they had to focus more on stopping him than propping up Jenkins. Manchin will be fine.

That's generally what happens when a state gets increasingly red.

And has an actual heavily contested primary (several in fact).
