I am very, very happy where we are. We have a path. That's more than many were saying a few weeks ago.

All of this is without Betsy's home town of Hallowell.

Well I'm going to go to sleep now, it's a little late where I am.  I'd just like to say one thing, MAINEiac, this night is Sweet.

We need basically all of Mark Eves’ 2nd choices to surpass Cote.

When do we get the news re: how preferences are distributed?
No idea. Rumor has it six days, I don’t believe it. I do think Friday is when the results are delivered to Augusta for certification and redistribution, however. If so, UGH.

Also: it’s really great how the media is ignoring that a progressive activist finished above the former Speaker of the House. Really. Great.

Looks like Sweet is doing well. I'm happy for you, maineiac Smiley
Also, I'm glad to see Jared Golden winning in ME-2, the results seem decent.

Also, look at the Democratic turnout numbers compared to Republican. Very, very good night to be a Maine Democrat.

Ranked choice voting passed again, too.

Mills 32.6
Sweeves 30.4
Cote 28.2.

This all comes down to:
1. How much Eves vote leaks away from Sweet
2. Where the Dion/Diane votes go.
3. If Sweet (or Eves) makes last round, how much does Mills-Cote mutual attacks push the loser's supporter to Sweet/Eve's.

Sweet's hometown of Hallowell still has not reported a single vote.

Sweet and Eves combined dominated Portland.

My favorite result tonight: Betsy won the Penobscot Nation's voting district. And Janet Mills received 0 votes there.

Janet Mills infamously sided with corporations in the fight of the Penobscot Nation's rights to their traditional waterways. It's part of the reason Henry Bear left the Democrats for the Greens. Betsy pointed this out repeatedly on the campaign.

I'm surprised Mayhew did so poorly. Going in she looked like the frontrunner.

Has anyone found a map of the RCV results?  I can't find a place that has any results by county.

We do not know the ranked choice results, and won’t for some time.

So I was speaking to Portland’s Mayor last night, and he said there was no way Betsy was getting to 2,000 votes in Portland with the number of precincts left to report.

Today: Sweet has 2,332 votes in Portland.

These Bangor Daily News maps are interesting. Hopefully Sweet stays ahead of Eves so we can see how many of his votes she got. I see Mills pulling this out but it'll be a close finish.

Donna Dion winning Burlington has to be some sort of counting error. She’s from Biddeford, in the south of the state, and she got 3/4 of the vote there???

One thing Betsy said to me is that she couldn’t stop thinking about how much time Russell, Dion and Dion took up in the debates, which were her best and most visible way to connect with new voters.

We expect to get almost all of Russell’s 2nd preferences, as she was also running a really progressive campaign.

The Dions are wildcards. Neither ran much of a campaign. Donna struck out centrist positions, so I think a lot of her votes will go to Mills and Cote. Mark ran a somewhat progressive campaign (as I mentioned a couple of pages back, he was Bernie’s caucus captain in my precinct in 2016) but apparently he threw a hissy fit when Eves and Sweet didn’t drop out and endorse him when a random poll showed him above us and Eves. He only had $40,000 coh and ran no visible campaign. He’s delusional and egotistical.

So I have no idea where his votes are going.

I know we're here to talk about Governor's race...but I am deeply appalled that the Republicans have nominated Seth Carey for DA in Androscoggin (among other) counties. His law license is suspended for sexual assault of a former client. It is absolutely disgusting, and I hope he gets throttled in November by the current DA.

At this point I've sort of resigned myself to Cote.

Third place. Incredible result. Incredibly proud.

I find it absolutely hilarious. He will get throttled.
