Richius, what percentage of Mississippians or Ohioans or Nebraskans with 'ambition' end up becoming residents of Los Angeles or New York?

It depends where your ambition lies.  If it is technology, you'd probably want to be in Silicon Valley.  If it is finance, probably New England.  If it is ranching and growing crops, or testing new methods of selectively breeding plants, you'd probably want to stay in Mississippi.

The point is, Canadians are moving south at an alarming rate.

The point is that the top of any profession - and particularly media and entertainment - is found in just a few cities worldwide.
None in Canada.

Toronto actually has a vibrant production industry, as does Vancouver, thanks to lower fees for filming.  Television shows such as X-Files were filmed in Canada.
It also takes 0 ambition to be in the arts.  And it is Americans that are doing the real work; and it is American money that is doing the talking.

That is because the U.S. is more populated, and thus has a larger market-place.  The American marketplace heavily serves, and thus satiates, most of the Canadian marketplace.  They blur.  How does this prove that Canada is inferior?

Canadians with ambition move south.  Half of my class at university is working in the United States right now.  And most of them want to stay in the United States.

If the United States suddenly offered green cards to all Canadians who want, a few million of us would immediately move down south.  Those that would stay in Canada are those that are lazy, on welfare, the socialists, and those people in Alberta who are already running themselves almost like America.  Then the Canadian economy would pretty much collapse.

You need to tell your government to stop keeping fully qualified, highly educated people out of your country.  You have no idea how many Canadian entrepeneurs want to move to the United States because Canada is so unfriendly to those with ambition.  We will create lots of new jobs for you guys.

This is stupid. Americans arent going to know any succesful Canadians who are not in America, because they are in Canada.
You're really starting to piss me off Richius. Leave Canada already, I beg you! Take your "success" to someone who gives a damn.

*sigh* from Australia.

America is big, and whether we like it or not, the center of the Universe, basically. Whilst I can get far within Australia, in some areas America is the pinnacle, because of population, etc.

Now that's not to say that in some things it is actually preferable to be an Aussie. In terms of trade with Asia, Australians are usually favoured, even in countries like Malaysia. Australia isn't in the same league as the US, but like Canada is a middle power. Middle powers have three key factors:

1. The are sucessful in general, but excel in some areas, usually relating to internation economics/diplomacy.

2. They are internationalist, but have strong national sentiment.

3. They are not concerned with comparing themselves to superpowers, and have realistic expectations that they can't be, but ARE concerned with bettering their situation. They don't have thje luxury that a major or superpower has, of dominating world affairs, but they do have high 'mobility' and are increasingly becoming important players on the world diplomatic and economic stage.

My international studies teacher would be filthy with my wording, but basically hats how Australia operates in the world, and to a slightly lesser extent, countries like Thailand, South Africa and Canada.
