2 votes, 1 for what you think he will do and 1 for what you think he should do. At this point, it seems like everyone has some kind of reason to be pissed at him.

No.

He worded his letter poorly but he testified under oath the investigation was reviewed fully. New emails emerged, and even tangentially related, by looking into whether they are particularly related or will change anything, not amending his testimony would be perjury. Comey did what he had to do, albeit in a vague and unhelpful way.

Chaffetz, OTOH, should not be out leaking documents from the FBI to the press.

Most of the blame for this lays at the feet of Jason Chaffetz, who decided to plant this story in his last ditch attempt to at least save the Senate. That being said, Comey is a smart enough guy to know how much of a political hack Chaffetz is, and so writing a few extremely vague, poorly worded paragraphs about looking into emails means he's either incompetent or did this on purpose.

He's broken FBI precedent TWICE now in order to try to influence an election in favor of his political party. Obviously he should.

Comey is an obvious threat to the republic. He should resign. But he won't.

"Our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case."

What a left wing Hillary hack!

He's a Republican? Oh. Muhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh emailz tho
So what is it? Is he a reasonable, fair minded Republican or a hack? Make up your mind on this. Oh and Russia too. Make up your mind on if the Cold War is over.

I don't get your point. I said he's a Republican, so he clearly isn't a Hillary hack like all the right wingers were saying. I never said he wasn't a GOP hack. In fact, you neglected to post the thread I made that same day (or maybe the next day) about how he broke FBI precedent by editorializing during his press conference in an attempt to besmirch the reputation of someone he was bringing no charges against.

Edit: I found it for you!

So despite the fact that Comey was a good Republican who did his best to give a hatchet job to the Democratic nominee before announcing his findings that he couldn't indict her, the Republicans lash out at him as an idiot/liar/shill anyway! Hilarious.

OK if this duplicate email thing is legit, then Comey needs to resign immediately.

Evidently they serve 10-year terms, in which case Comey would normally stay on until late 2023. So yes, he needs to resign, after the election but before she is sworn into office.

It doesn't matter whether he was trying to hurt Democrats or whether he was trying to protect the image of the FBI or reassure internal critics he isn't in Obama/Clinton's pocket. He needs to go. His behavior is completely out of line. The FBI is not supposed to comment on investigations like this, and they are supposed to stay out of politics. Sending ambiguous letters to Republicans 11 days before a bitter & heavily-contested presidential election is not staying out of politics. His job description does not include funneling information to Republicans to use in winning elections.

He violated professionalism as well as the impartiality the FBI is supposed to have, so he absolutely needs to go, and should also face an internal investigation.

Obviously he should -he just put party ahead of country with this media release.

But absent pressure from the Obama administration, he probably won't resign.

Not sure. It may be possible he was just doing his job in reporting the side development to the Congress, which Republicans picked up and presented as a scandal.

Regardless of whether he informed Congress or not, it would have political ramifications. If there had been no ramifications, informing Congress when he did would have been the right choice, hence it was still the right choice.

He only had to inform Congress because he broke with department policy to elaborate on investigations in a bizarre press conference where he offered his opinions and was then forced to testify. He also worded the letter in a vague and scandalmongering way, and sent it to the committee chairmen most likely to leak it and lie about its contents. Pretty much indefensible.

He should go if Clinton wins, and I think there's a good chance that he will in such a situation. I'm glad that the FBI Director has some level of independence, but they should also be able to work with the president. I'm not sure how well Clinton and Comey could work together after all that's happened.

Obama should fire him the day after the election and the set up a task force to investigate his ties to Putin.

I want him to resign his post on Monday and explain to the country why he was derelict in his duty in attempting to influence the election through his office. Otherwise, as stated above, President Obama should fire him immediately after the election. If he cannot retain enough dignity to resign his post with haste, President Obama should strip him of any dignity he has left and make a public announcement of his immediate termination.

He should resign, but I don't know if he will.  He has inserted the FBI into the middle of the campaign and violated Justice Department protocol more than once, with this latest violation being egregious.  He may very well have compromised the integrity of this presidential election.  People can no longer trust that he will not use the FBI to meddle in political elections.  He needs to be fired.
