Sounds like Trump wanted to pick Christie, and only didn’t because of Christie’s history with the family of Trump’s son-in-law:

Yuck, Trump picked a VP more corrupt then Hillary Clinton, representative of all that is horrible in the tea party and the republican establishment,an  anti-Worker piece of sh**t with a horrible governor record. I guess, it's time to very unenthusiastically support Clinton.

Did you genuinely believe the Republican Party would EVER be "pro-worker?"

Pence uses his first time in the national spotlight to blame Clinton for the coup in Turkey.

I mean, I guess he's trying.

Why did trump just leave Pence on the stage, after announcing him as his VP pick.
Most of the time, when you announce your number 2, you would stand behind the VP as this individual takes the podium and then speaks.
To just leave off stage is stupid. It makes it look like he really doesn't support his selection.
Unbelievable !

I don't know whether or not Trump really wanted Pence.  I think this was his big concession to Paul Ryan, who made it a big deal that Trump pick a "conservative" as his VP.

One of the themes of a special edition of TIME magazine focusing on Trump is that he isn't some guy who's pretending to be a conservative when he's not.  Trump's a guy who directly challenged conservatism and, in the process, exposed the GOP as a much different party than the monolithic small-government party the Paul Ryans of the world think they lead.

So I read Pence's job approval in IN is about 40/42. Should the Clinton camp make a play for IN like Obama did? Run a state-specific campaign against Trump/Pence.

Nah. They should focus resources on NC and AZ.

Pence's unpopularity in Indiana will probably just mean his favorite son effect in the state will be a wash.

Agree. But more importantly, make sure the Dems hold Pennsylvania and Florida.
I really think the "Trump /IS Dense" campaign, will make a big effort to try and take PA this year.

"Favorite son" ..... now there is a political term we don't see much any more.

More behind the scenes stuff, plus more indications that Team Christie thought they had this in the bag...

I wonder if all this means that we will probably not see Christie as much (or any) with trump on the campaign trail.
Thoughts ?

Maybe he'll actually govern his state for once instead picking up Trump's McDonald's.

well reports are that Trump will also name cabinet picks at the convention, including spots for Christie and Gingrich, so they don't go home empty handed.

This isn't really relevant, but I just realized that it's pretty fitting that Trump's VP came from the state that clinched him the nomination.

Yeah, and how he 'endorsed' Cruz while at the same time praising everything about Trump.

Pence has a decent resume, but doesn't seem to be a good politician. In his one race for statewide office he won by three points in a state Romney won by ten (in the same election cycle.)

Pawlenty, Kasich, Branstad, Walker and Portman all seem to be better political talents, if he's interested in midwestern officeholders. I'm guessing they all had no interest.

In Trump-related news: Christie was reportedly enraged he didn't earn the VP spot, according to a top Trump campaign official.

Christie needs a job.  Elected or not, Trump is in a position to give him a job, and at the level he'd like.

Why not? Christie's smart enough to realize that elections are likely to be a relic of a more civilized age after PresidentEmperor TrumpMillerBarron takes office.
