An extremely stale meme that might've been understandable to see where it came from in 2015 but continuing now amongst anyone who claims to be liberal is kind of incomprehensible.

It's been horrible since it started, but it seems to be only horrible people doing it, so I"m ok with it.  Horrible people advertising that they're horrible is a good thing.

I can't always tell the difference between ironic and unironic Trump supporters, mostly because "ironic" ones are often the types of people I would expect to unironically support Trump.

Do we need to poll this every week? We all know it's not funny.

Better than non-ironic Sanders support tbh.

To be fair, that's a pretty low bar.

Better than non-ironic Sanders support tbh.

Who actually has a chance of being a general election nominee: Trump or Sanders?

No matter what you think of Sanders supporting him is at worse harmless. Trump and his campaign on the other hand have already damaged America even if he doesn't become President, or even the Republican nominee.

Donald Trump being the nominee is objectively the best result at this stage.

Even if one agrees with that for the purpose of furthering Democrats, that's not a reason to be slobberly worshipful of him.

Look at this way: Was there ever "ironic" Democratic supporters of Christine O'Donnell, Todd Akin or Richard Mourdock? Of course not, many Democrats were talking about how they wanted them to be nominees for obvious reasons while at the same time still calling them out for the terrible people they are. There's no reason why Democrats can't just take the same attitude toward Trump.

Does it count as ironic Trump support if you enjoy watching him destroy the GOP and want him to win since you think he'd be the weakest candidate?

Cruz would be the weakest candidate.

Confusing.  Trump is so comically terrible that my default setting for comprehending a pro-Trump post is to take it as ironic, which means I often can't tell which ones are genuinely intended.

I'm not necessarily saying that was my view. Actually, I do think a straight Trump nomination would be weaker than a straight Cruz nomination, but since a Cruz nomination would require dirty tricks and overturning the will of the voters, it could very well wind up being weaker in the end. Plus it would be extremely entertaining, so I'm rooting for that outcome.

No, only if you pretend to actually like him while doing so.

That's not what polls show now...but I do think Trump would cause more damage downballot and to the Republican brand in the long term. Neither him or Cruz would win, but Cruz would at least be able to secure 45% or so with the base turning out for him.

That's a good point. I think that, on average, Cruz is likely to have a better result than Drumpf, but Drumpf has a greater chance of pulling an upset win if everything goes his way. There is more uncertainty if he's the nominee.

"Ironic" Trump support can be perfectly genuine. Say you have concluded that our entire society is a joke-in-motion and politics is akin to the voters rolling a boulder up a hill like Sisyphus.

You could believe that Trump is absurd...and thus the correct choice.

Pretty sure I've always made it clear I despise Cruz and only support him to stop Drumpf.

And you can't deny he's been extremely skillful in dealing with the procedural aspect of the delegate fight.

Yes, Cruz is well-known for his calls to reform libel laws.
