I think it would harm him actually. Kasich is now the establishment candidate running in what is potentially the biggest anti-establishment year yet. Romney's endorsement surely doesn't help matters in that regard.

Let's hope so. It would make me lose a lot of respect for Mitt; that's for sure.

Hasn't John Kasich always been the establishment candidate, albeit more in the shadows compared with Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, and Marco Rubio?

Of course it'd help him. Mitt Romney, along with Ben Sasse, is one of the leaders of the Never Trump movement.

Either way, it's probably not going to make much of a difference.

People mentioning that Kasich and Romney are both establishment politicians, whether or not that is true, is not seeing in more than 2 dimensions. Romney's little anti-Trump tirade made him sound elitist - why don't you get this Trump man is a vulgar tyrant? why are you so stupid? why can't you see this so obviously like I do? - and has tanked his numbers among people even sympathetic to an anti-Trump movement or still on the fence about Trump.

It will help him but not because Mitt has a particular support base or because Kasich is the top choice for the establishment (he is way too independent for them, but a still more reasonable choice than Cruz), but because it will bring fundraising and $$$, allowing Kasich to effectively beat Trump at the Convention.

Of course it would be.  Just being seen with him will be damaging.

Maybe Romney can say something worthwhile in the events tomorrow making fun of Trump's bs lies about Kasich that will compensating for the inevitable harm that Kasich receives from Romney campaigning for him.

Anyway, Romney endorsing Kasich is a sensless move. Kasich is the weakest link in the process. We laugh at Rubio's campaign, but when compared to Kasich, Marco is a freaking juggernaut.

If Romney really wants to stop Trump, he should've backed Cruz. Unless, of course, he's planning to be a compromise nominee at the brokered convention... which wouldn't surprise me at all.
