I got a 34, although I wonder how much of that is from my NVLD (there's some overlap between the two).

You've never really struck me as an Aspergers/autism type tbh; at least on here, you've come across as easygoing and normal IMO.

I'm autistic, yes. I (I personally) don't like the word/concept of Asperger's and don't like the framing of "having" autism as if it's an illness.

Do you think the DSM should change how autism is classified?

Got a 28 on the test. That apparently means I'm borderline autistic Sad

While I am generally an introverted person that sometimes has problems starting conversations or making friends, I never thought of myself as autistic/asperger and function normally I think.

Definitely a lot higher than expected

Quote
0-11 low result – indicating no tendency at all towards autistic traits.
11-21 is the average result that people get (many women average around 15 and men around 17)
22-25 shows autistic tendencies slightly above the population average
26-31 gives a borderline indication of an autism spectrum disorder. It is also possible to have aspergers or mild autism within this range.
32-50 indicates a strong likelihood of Asperger syndrome or autism.

According to the quiz I got a 27 lol.

I'm not sure. The DSM-5 combined the autism, Asperger's, and a couple of other diagnoses from the DSM-IV into one "autism spectrum disorder" diagnosis, which strikes me as a marked improvement. However, I haven't sat down and read all of the relevant language, and I know there are other criticisms people have of the new definition and criteria. If you're referring to the fact that autism is classified as an Axis I disorder, I don't understand the various axes well enough to have an opinion.

I have a genetic disorder which seems to overlap with a lot of Autism symptoms.  So I'm not sure.

Understood.  I was just curious in particular about your comment about not liking the framing of autism as an illness through the language of "having."  Would you say the same about other developmental disorders that this is a bad way of phrasing the situation (saying "I have X")?

I don't really want to speak for other developmental disorders, because different communities of disabled people have different assessments of the aptness of "person-first" language or the language used for illness. I and most of the other autistic people I know strongly dislike it, as iirc do most deaf people (especially culturally Deaf people who use sign language as their primary language, etc.--interestingly, I recently learned that Dennis Daugaard of all people grew up in a culturally Deaf environment since he's a hearing child of deaf parents) and at least some blind people, but there are certain other subsets of disabled people who do prefer it. It's also hard to figure out syntactically how to avoid it with certain disabilities, unless we bite the bullet and use (for example) "a Down syndrome" to mean "a person with Down syndrome" opebospeak-style.

No. According to that quiz thingy I'm marginal, but nobody I have ever interacted with ever thought I have it. Seems like it would flag most science types as marginal regardless. I'm nothing like the people I know who actually have Asperger's.
