I'm surprised that nobody has taken Bernie Sanders; this is a problem that needs to be fixed.

Chris Christie Announces 2016 Presidential Campaign, Vows to Represent Mainstream America

Trenton, New Jersey
"Today, America faces greater challenges than ever before.  We need leaders in Washington who will stand up to those challenges.  Unfortunately, the last eight years have seen a president and Congress who would rather slink away from the very real dangers facing our nation and our world.  Too many of our leaders care more about winning reelection and keeping their campaign donors happy than they do about making difficult decisions and moving America forward.

Meanwhile, the forgotten majority of American see their voices being drowned out by extremists in both major parties.  Democrats are moving further and further to the left, advocating for abortion on demand, redistribution of wealth, and big government healthcare.  But it's not just the far left that we should stand up to; it's the extreme voices within our own party as well.  Since 2010, Republicans have given President Obama and his liberal rubberstamps in Congress free reign over our government and our lives by nominating extreme, unelectable candidates in the name of ideological purity.  And if you dare to call them out for this, they accuse you of being a RINO.  Then, the ones that do get elected refuse to work with their colleagues, causing gridlock, dysfunction, and yes, even government shutdowns.  They want to destroy our government altogether: dismantle the safety net, dismantle the tracking of suspected terrorists, legalize marijuana, and treat blacks and Mexicans as second-class citizens.  I am ashamed to even call these people Republicans.  As these extreme voices continue to dominate our government, America's middle class is being decimated.  Taxes go up, unemployment goes up, the cost of living goes up, but opportunity goes down.

My friends, these extreme ideas on both the left and the right are not what our Founding Fathers envisioned for America.  But there is good news: it is not too late to turn this country around!  This next election in 2016 is the most important choice America will face since 1968.  Back then, violence and racial tension ruled the streets of our major cities.  Extreme left-wingers worked to destroy the moral fabric of America, while extreme right-wingers worked to deny blacks full citizenship and leave our poorest and most vulnerable to be victims of cruel fate.  It took courageous leaders like President Nixon to speak for the silent majority and bring America back to its senses.  Today, as it was then, America's leaders have failed.  We need a government that is willing to stand up to the terrorist states of the Middle East; one that will do everything it can to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, destroy radical Islamic terror, and defend Israel against all her enemies.  One that will free our poor, our middle class, and our minority communities from the failures of the liberal welfare state while protecting them from losing the rights they already have.  One that recognizes that all lives matter: black, white, Hispanic, gay, straight, native, immigrant, police, and unborn alike; one that will put terrorists and cop killers behind bars where they belong.  One that will cut taxes for all Americans while working to grow our economy and create jobs again.

As a conservative governor in one of the most liberal states, I've proven that I can work with both parties and take on the most difficult challenges of government.  I believe that I can help make America great again.  And that is why, today, I announce my candidacy for President of the United States of America."

Hello! It's great to be here today! For the last seven years, I have seen America deteriorate. President Barack Obama and his socialist agenda have been nothing but bad for America and her people. I have heard America cry, and I would like to announce my candidacy for President of the United States. As your President, I will work to create jobs, just like I did at The Donald Trump Organization. I will make America great again, and will be the greatest jobs President. I will work to restore the American Dream, through funding social security, the creation of a flat tax, and the opposition of federal education standards, putting them back in to the hands of the states.  With your help and your vote, we can America great again! Thank you, and may God Bless America!

Rand Paul for President!

"I'm not here to make a name for myself. I'm not here because I thought I was next in line. I'm not here because I just thought it would be fun. I'm here to take this nation back!

"Ladies and gentlemen, I am running for President of the United States of America!

"There is nothing more important than the rights given to us by the Founders in the Constitution, and in the last 8 years we've seen those rights taken away. We need a President who will stand with the American people, by standing with the constitution!

"No more illegal wiretapping! This is a violation of the 4th amendment, which reiterates one of the main things the American revolution was fought over: the right to be left alone. No more Obamacare! We need a healthcare system that puts the power in the hands of the people, not the hands of the powerful. No more IRS! I will slash the tax code and replace it with a fairer, simpler system to help America's economy thrive. No more excess government spending! We need to balance the budget, and I will balance the budget!

"It's time we had criminal justice reform: the focus for non-violent, first time offenders needs to be rehabilitation, not punishment. It's time we had education reform: the power needs to be with the parents, not the Department of Education. And it's time we had an end to unconstitutional executive orders!

"We can take America back, back to where the founder's intended it to be. To do that, we need to hit the reset button with our government. We need to follow the constitution, and protect our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and property.

"America, it begins here! And with your help, it will continue on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!! Thank you!!"

Defeat the Washington Machine!

Unleash the American Dream!

Kirsten Gillbrand announces for President!!!

America, I'm proud to announce I'm running for President today, because we need leadership that respects everyone's right to choose...man and woman, straight and non-traditional, black and white, We need a leadership that both projects might in foreign policy, while still believing in old-fashioned diplomacy. We need leadership that will support the downtrodden, and those above them equally. We need leadership that will recognize the threats that climate change provides, and do something about them. We need leadership that is both flexible and incorruptible. We need leadership that is willing to show that they are human, and we need leadership that respects that ALL lives matter, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and White.

I believe I am that leader, because I have fought for disparate groups in the Senate, I have shown flexibility and reliability, and I have shown I can speak for all sides of my party.

Four Democrats are challenging me. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren and Bill Gates. Each brings their own strengths to the table...be it money, name recognition, or a fire to do right...but I have all of the above, and I believe if you give me a chance, I can be your President!

Dan Quayle 2016

(In a surprise move, Former Vice-President Quayle announces his candidacy at Arizona State University)

Good evening! Many of you are, I am sure, taken by surprise by this sudden announcement. But there is a reason why I am putting myself as a candidate. Our country has been set back by eight years of slow recovery, turmoil abroad, and a complete lack of cohesion between the White House and the Congress. We need someone who knows how to get things done in the White House, someone who can work with opposition, someone who can make the hard choices. Well of all the candidates that have come forth, I don't see anything resembling that.

I have a unique background, I can do all those things, and I have done those things. I've had the experience of being in the White House and being a part of those decisions, I've been in the Senate and had to work with democratic majorities, we all want to make America better, but we have to find common ground, and find what America needs, and what we, the American people want.

So when it comes down to it, you have to ask yourself who you trust in the White House, someone with no experience, someone who cares only about power, someone who is an idealist, or someone who's had to make those hard decisions, and wants the best for America. So let's go forth to win the White House, as conservatives, as Republicans, as Americans!

BRANSTAD FOR PRESIDENT
Iowa Governor Terry Branstad announces run for President

  Des Moines, Iowa
"My fellow Americans, our country is at a crossroads we've lived under failed leadership of our current President, the economy not even close to recovering and Americans having less money than every before. People here in the United States are wanting change, I've been talking for some time with Iowans and other Americans, their sick and tired they aren't making any money anymore, their wages are low, they can't find better paying jobs, and there not achieving the American Dream that they've worked and lived for their entire life.

Many people ask how am I not the same old politican that we've had running and killing our country for the last 20 years, to answer that question I say, I know how you live what's hurting you. My parents were farmers from Northern Iowa we grew up living paycheck to paycheck, once I worked in my pappys country store in Leland for 8 months being payed a small 80 cents a day to buy a new pair of shoes that all my friends had. I experienced life the hard way, the way you grew up not like a rich businessman from New York or the son of a congressman. We need to bring the American Dream back if you want to succeed in life, make sure your children live a better life than you did and restore the Constitution that have kept our system of Liberty and equal opportunity than I'm your candidate, I ask to vote for Real a Change on Day One and elect me Terry Branstad as your President. Thank You and God Bless."

Romney doesn't support me, it's the best picture I could find.

Important Announcement from Buddy Roemer
Time for change. Time for Buddy.

Hello there, folks! How's everybody doing tonight? Today, I've come to make a major announcement about my future, and hopefully the future of this great nation. After months of careful deliberation, discussion with my family and my fellow Americans, and watching the news, I have decided that I'm going to join the field for the GOP nomination in 2016. Last time around, we didn't get much traction, but this time, Americans are awake and realizing how much harm monopolization of power by Wall Street and cronyism in our government are causing to American families. As I speak, income inequality continues to rise. Right now, the top 10% of American wealth earners earn more then the bottom 90%. Combined with disastrous rulings such as Citizen's United, this is leading us down the road to oligarchy. I propose an economic policy agenda to get America back on track as an innovator and to restore the American Dream.
1. A president Roemer WILL break up the too big to fail banks. As former president of a community bank, I recognize the need for banking reform in this nation. Dodd-Frank also needs to be simplified for small banks.
2. I will overturn Citizen's United.
3. The fed needs to be audited. For too long, they've conducted fishy activity against the interests of the American public.
4. We must close tax loopholes that let major corporations get away with tax evasion legally.
5. I support raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.
6. I will simplify patent laws to prevent patent trolling and keep drug prices down.
8. As president, I will seek to renegotiate unfair trade deals to protect US jobs, enforce human rights, and prevent manipulation by other countries such as China.
9. I support a simpler tax code that makes things easier for families and businesses alike.
10. Let's start to pay down our staggering debt by targeting waste in government spending.

As a former congressman and governor, I feel that I've uniquely had to deal with a variety of issues on both a legislative and executive level. Here are some other issues I find important to focus on as we move forward in this campaign.
1. The US needs to scale back our involvement abroad while maintaining a powerful defensive force.
2. The US must halt the expanding prison-industrial system, as millions are wasted on unjust and unnecessary imprisonment.
3. We need to prioritize an 'all of the above' energy policy to move us into the future.
4. I will emphasize border security in any immigration reform package.
5. Gun control issues and abortion belong to the states.
6. College costs need to be brought under control because our students are losing ground to foreign students who can more easily attend university.

This country needs a new direction. It's clear that none in the mainstream of either party will pursue the agenda we need for the US. That's why I am running. We need a fresh face in politics, not an entrenched DC interest. My family and I are looking forward to a great time on the campaign trail, fighting for a better collective future for this country. As we say down in Louisiana, merci beaucoup and bonne nuit!

Round 1 - Introduction

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Round 1 of the 2016 United States Presidential Election Interactive Timeline! Cheesy

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who has signed up to participate in this timeline for doing so, and assure all candidates that the updated version of the timeline will be much easier to understand, much easier to operate, and much more interesting and multi-faceted than the old version.

Before I get to the rules for Round 1, let me mention a few notes:

    - In the past, I have been pretty lenient when it comes to following the rules. For example, I have extended the sign-up period multiple times and have allowed to candidates who haven't posted their announcement speeches yet to still participate. However, in the future, I have decided to become more strict when it comes to following the rules in order to ensure a faster and fairer game - this means that breaching the rules will not be tolerated and time limits will begin to be strictly enforced.

    - From this point forward, please refrain from deleting any of your previous posts. If you made a mistake in your post and want to change it, simply edit it (with my permission) or add another post that includes the changes. After all, my main goal in moderating this game is to surpass the 1972 ITL in post count (just kidding).

    - If you have any questions (ANY questions) regarding the game, please feel free to contact me. Do not be afraid that you are asking too many questions; I am here to help and am willing to assist you in any way possible.

Next up, I have to account for how exactly this timeline will work.

As I said earlier, the timeline starts on July 1, 2015. It is assumed that by this time, all candidates will have announced their candidacies though will not have started actively campaigning for the presidency. All events (with the exception of election-related ones) that occurred in real life before July 1, 2015 are assumed to have occurred in the timeline; if you have any questions on what is considered an 'election-related event' please feel free to contact me. After July 1, it is also assumed that all non-election related events that have occurred in real life have occurred in the timeline; once more, feel free to contact me if you need any clarifications.

The following are the current whereabouts of people who are running for president in real life but aren't in the timeline (this will help you with determining which endorsements you want to pursue):

Democratic Party:
    - Bernie Sanders: Still a United States Senator from the state of Vermont; identifies as an independent but caucuses with the Democrats in the Senate.
    - Martin O'Malley: Though not in office, remains active politically and is exploring a run for Senate in 2016.
    - Jim Webb: Has sunk into a quiet retirement at his home in Virginia.
    - Lincoln Chafee: Has sunk into a quiet retirement at his home in Rhode Island.

Republican Party:
    - Ben Carson: Remains active as a political commentator; contemplates run for United States Senate in Maryland.
    - Jim Gilmore: Becomes a political vegetable, as expected.
    - Lindsey Graham: Remains active as a United States Senator from South Carolina.
    - Mike Huckabee: Remains the host of his FOX News television program, Huckabee.
    - Bobby Jindal: Though holding no current political office, remains active politically and seems to be interested in replacing David Vitter as a United States Senator from Louisiana if Vitter wins the Louisiana governorship.
    - George Pataki: Has declared his candidacy for the 2016 United States Senate election in New York, facing off against Senator Chuck Schumer.
    - Rick Santorum: Remains politically active; is on tour for his new book, "America: In Obama We Trust."

If you have any questions regarding the current whereabouts of these candidates, please feel free to contact me.

Anyway, enough with extra notes. Now for the rules for Round 1 (please note that general rules for the Primary Election Stage are here):

Rules

1. Round 1 (also known as Turn 1) begins on July 1, 2015 and ends on July 7, 2015 in the timeline.

2. You have exactly 48 hours from the time this is posted to present your candidate's schedule. If your 48 hours are up, I will PM you and give you an additional 24 hours to post, but after that, I will not provide any more extensions unless you PM me and give me a good reason to do so. If you don't post within the time limit, it will be assumed that your candidate did not campaign during the week in question.

3. You may visit no more than one state/territory/federal district per day. This means, for example, that a candidate must stay within one state on July 1, may move to a different state on July 2, may move to a third state on July 3, etc. However, you can move wherever you would like within a state throughout the day.

4. You may ask for up to 10 (ten) endorsements per week. In order to ask for an endorsement, you must meet with the person you wish to be endorsed by (this counts as one of your thirty maximum events). If you want to meet with someone to ask for their endorsement, you must go to their home state or a state that they are active in. For example, if you want Dianne Feinstein's endorsement, you could go to California (her home state) or Washington, D. C. (where she works) to meet with her. If you have a question on whether you can get a certain person's endorsement in a certain state, please feel free to ask me. "When in doubt, give darthebearnc a shout!"

5. For Round 1, you must also produce a campaign staff for your candidate. It's up to you to determine who is in your staff, but remember that how well you do in the polls is based off of how specific and detailed your information is. You may not include any real people in your campaign staff teams unless they are (a) you in real life or (b) somebody who actually works for your candidate.

6. I have provided polling for both parties' primaries, including national polls and polls in the four early primary states. If you have any additional polling requests, please simply ask me and I will provide them for free. Remember that how you do in the polls is based off of how much effort you put into your campaign schedules, debates, speeches, etc.

7. Please remember that if you have any questions, feel free to contact me! Don't feel afraid; I don't bite (I'm not a mod).

Mini Update 1!

Two quick points to make:

1. In Round 1, both a campaign schedule and a campaign staff list for your candidate must be provided.

2. As requested, here are the Democratic Party primary polls for Washington:

Washington Democratic Primary

Hillary Clinton - 29%
Gary Locke - 26%
Bill Gates - 26%
Elizabeth Warren - 14%
Joe Biden - 4%
Kirsten Gillibrand - 1%
Al Gore - 0%

Thanks everyone! Cheesy

P.S. For some reason, the forum only allows you 20 personal messages per hour, so I have to wait a little before responding to the PMs that I've recently received. Sorry about that.
