Yes (R), he literally helped save America twice, and in one of those occasions, he helped save the whole world.

TNF and co. have right to be pissed off at him and our right wingers ought to be very thankful. FDR's greatest accomplishment was stopping radical movements form gaining a foothold in America.

Yes (not a hack).  I don't agree with him on a lot, and I'm certainly of the opinion that some of his policies that allegedly "ended the Depression" might have actually prolonged it.  There are also several black marks (vetoing anti-lynching legislation, interning Japanese Americans) ... However, it's pretty far fetched to suggest he wasn't a "good President" given his leadership during World War II.

Hopefully in fifty years your grandchildren will treat FDRs treatment of Japanese Americans and his outright refusal to tackle the lynch mob as severely as you guys treat Jackson for his pro-slavery views and treatment of Native Americans.  In the meantime, folks like me will call a spade a spade until the authorship of history textbooks is void of the Silver Spoon Class.

Obvious HP.

Deliberately provoking Japan into attacking us in order to justifying entering the war=No

What on earth are you talking about?  That's bonkers.

HL Mencken is an elitist libertarian a-hole, so I have no idea why you're quoting him, SWE.

Well considering that the True Leftists here have an effective détente with the edgy quasi-libertarian types like Oakvale here (especially on things hating on Hillary), its not much of a surprise.

I'm in the middle on him overall.

Domestic and economic wise he was mediocre at best. Passed SS and did some public works stuff but mostly just spent a lot of money. Then you have the camps and what he did to the Japaneese. That's screwed up.

He should have quit in 1940 so that looses props for me but he made up for it due to how he handled the actual War. He was prob the best person we could have had in that regard. So he gets props from me there.

I admire how he handled two of America's greatest crisis but his domestic policies (New Deal) make me vote no. But his foreign policy was not too bad and he defiantly handled World War Two pretty well.
