It looks to me like all major "lanes"/factions of the GOP are still represented by the Final Four... except for libertarianism, which really only became a lane with Ron Paul in '08/'12.

It's because "Libertarianism" is actually about racism, corporate dominance, and religious zealotry. And those are all quite well covered by the current candidates.

"Dehumanizing" rhetoric is never appropriate. At best it comes off as deranged and at worst, well, I think we all understand what it's like at its worst.

The situation that BRTD describes just demonstrates how tempting it is to indulge in unthinking and hateful tribalism, even among people who supposedly share values that are in direct opposition to that kind of hatefulness.

I don't have a favorite. All of them are feckless cowards, as lacking in moral courage as they are in substantive ideas for addressing the country's most pressing problems, and the values that each is running on are utterly incompatible with my own. Trump is significantly worse than the other three - and a symptom of American democracy in crisis, Rubio is probably least capable of governing the country, Cruz is the most ideologically dangerous, and Kasich is most emblematic of everything wrong with Republican Party as an institution. (Kasich also has severe empathy issues that are underappreciated, much like Mitt Romney. You catch them occasionally in his most offhand comments. Most will disagree with me, but I think he's even worse than Cruz in this regard.)
