I figure its one of these three, and I'm inclined to say Obama.  I imagine that incumbent American presidents enjoy pretty much universal name and facial recognition around the world.  Pope Francis and Queen Elizabeth would be the runners-up I'm guessing.

Obama.  I don't think most Americans would recognize Pope Francis (it might be different in other countries), so I think the Queen would be next.

Pope Francis, President Obama, Ex-Secretary of State Clinton (she has done a lot of traveling as Secretary of State), Prince William and Princess Kate, Queen Elizabeth, President Putin (mainly due to current events) and Kim Jong-Un in that order.

Well... I admit, the Chinese movie stars have some logic to it.

I have a hard time seeing Pope Francis as the most recognizable.

He's only been Pope for about a year and why would people know about him in the largely non-Catholic (but crazy populated) places like India, China and Sub-Saharan Africa?

As for Chinese movie stars, that makes some sense...but this person would probably have about zero presence outside of China.

I'm sticking with Obama.

Pope Francis could walk past me, and I wouldn't recognize him.  I'm going with Obama because of the ears.

Jackie Chan, Pele or Beckham?, Obama...I can't see the queen or the pope making the cut.

Jackie Chan is universally known in China and widely known pretty much everywhere else so if we're following the logic of choosing an Asian movie star he's probably a good guess. Superstar Rajinikanth is also very famous throughout South and East Asia but isn't nearly as known on other continents.

Jackie Chan, it looks like. Yikes, there are too many Asians, throwing everything out of whack. Tongue

In terms of celebrities you're right (or Jackie Chan as Nathan suggested), but I would say either Obama or Francis.

I don't know that he's that high on the list. If Kim Jong-Il were alive, he'd definitely be high on the list.

Obama.

In street clothes, Obama would be immediately recognizable almost anywhere. Francis not nearly so much, IMO.

The thing with soccer stars is that they largely would not be recognized by very many people in North America, even really major ones.

For movie stars, maybe someone like Clint Eastwood??

The only problem with Eastwood is that the way he looks now is decades older than the image of him that most people, especially most people outside North America and Western Europe, still have.

Obama is the most distinct-looking of the three.  And I don't even watch soccer or most sports for that matter, so naturally I wouldn't recognize most athletes. Tongue

Francis is less well known outside of the Christian world and you under estimate just how big soccer is outside of North America. Obama is the most recognizable politician, but I still think more people would recognize Cristiano Ronaldo in Latin America, Africa, Europe and most of Asia.

Obama would be better known in North America (duh), Australia/NZ and the Indian subcontinent, but that's about it. It may be enough, but it would be close.

What about that super-duper cricket player from India whose name escapes me?

Cricket is a much smaller sport than soccer world wide.

Granted, but there's probably 2 billion people who'd recognize the guy on sight.

Among those three, I'd guess Obama.  Dress them in civvies, without the pope hat or tiara, and I'm not sure many outside their immediate families will recognize either of the other two.
