Sudanese Pregnant woman to be flogged, hanged for being a Christian

Meriam Yeyha Ibrahim Ishag, a doctor from the Sudan was sentenced in Khartoum yesterday to 100 lashes for adultery, in this marrying a Christian man, that Sudan's incarnation of Sharia Law does not recognize, and a death sentence for apostasy, as she claimed she is a Christian, which is also illegal in Sudan.  As she is eight months pregnant the death sentence will be delayed until two years her child is born.

Amnesty International's Sudan researcher Manar Idriss, castigated the sentencing, saying that "Apostasy and adultery shouldn't be considered crimes at all, let alone carry the death penalty. It is a flagrant breach of International law."

The BBC's Osman Mohammed, meanwhile, in a report from Khartoum stated that death sentences are rarely carried out in the Sudan.

Outside the Courthouse there were small non-violent groups of protesters, some of whom supported Meriam, and others who supported the sentencing.

How do you get adultery from a married couple having relations with each other and only each other? The prosecution has no case whatsoever on that count at all. They're using the part of them both being Christ Followers as reason for slamming an adultery tag on her. Where is the American government on this? Since he's an American and she's married to an American wouldn't it behoove them to seek diplomatic protection that his citizenship merits?

They don't recognize the marriage, since a Muslim woman cant marry a non-Muslim (and she is still considered a Muslim since she has no right to convert). If the marriage is void its non-marital sex = "adultery". Still fornication would probably be a better translation.

Exactly, but it's not surprising that their laws are so draconian and repulsive.

Not only is she Christian, but she's Ethiopian Orthodox.
