RIP

No really, it probably stopped being worth a damn a long time ago. Of course, it's much better than the 'Progressive Alliance' of scab parties.

They let in any old party that claims to be socialist, so they awkwardly have to turf out parties every so often because they are propping up authoritarian, discredited regimes.

It's sort of sad to see what its become - basically it was a mistake to open the door a bit in the 70s and an even bigger mistake to do so even more enthusiastically after 1989 - but Internationals are mostly just drinking-and-networking clubs these days (old fashioned Internationalism is very, very dead), so the loss is purely symbolic.

Er... bit of an odd misunderstanding here. You see, Internationals don't actual promote anything. They're just clubs of political parties. During the Cold War the SI used to be a little more serious than most, but that's ancient history now (and even then it didn't promote anything: it wasn't an advertising agency).

My guess is they're getting them confused with the First International/Second International. The Third International definitely did some promoting too, almost none of it good. (To say nothing of the laughable Fourth International)

The Third International beat the Social Fascists; I'm surprised many of the less articulate true leftists aren't coming in to support them.
