I'm optimistic. The conservative revolution can't last forever, can it?

My point regarding HRC wasn't that she wasn't going to be some Bernie Sanders but that she might embrace somewhat more centre-left policies (possibly a German-style multi-payer healthcare, more bank regulations such as "Too Big to Fail", infrastructure spending, marijuana legalization) due to a shift in the Overton Window to the left.

I highly, highly doubt you'll see anyone acting any further to the left than Obama. Where he is? Sure, but I don't think you'll see further.

Obama is not left-wing, even by the standards of American politics.
By the standards of American politics, the national Democratic Party is left-wing. Obama represents the mainstream of the national Democratic Party.

No, no.

I highly doubt Hillary will be any more leftwing than Obama.

Obama is center-left. He is also a huge pussy, so he governs like a centrist. The GOP, at its core, is center right, and the Democrats are center-left. The "we never had a true liberal" is annoying as all other "we never had true (insert ideology here)" arguments.

I am strangely optimistic, but it probably won't be for another 6 years at the very least.

Fair enough. Wimpy center-left doesn't mean "liberal" in the way that both right and left mean it, though.

You don't count as a liberal if you govern to the right of Richard Nixon. Tongue

By "truly Liberal", I mean a President as left wing in his or her ideology as FDR or Lyndon Johnson--and acts like it, too; doesn't swing or cave to the right in the way Carter, Clinton and Obama did.

Yes. definitely. And several. In my opinion, Obama is already one. Bill wasn't though, for me he was just a moderate with certain left-leaning sympathies.

"True Liberalism" died a long long time ago.
