That's truly tragic. Someone needs to stage an intervention, post haste.

Very positive; much better than The Beatles~

Haha, no way. He was pretty sweet though. I always found the story of their big meetup to be amusing.

I enjoy many musicians like him, and he was certainly an inspiring and pivotal figure in music, but something about his delivery and the whole corny musician/actor/heart throb spiral he slipped into while contemporaries churned out decidedly more daring efforts leaves me without much enthusiasm. Positive on the whole, however, for the handful of songs I like and his colossal influence - something I don't frequently give a s**t about when evaluating music.

Honestly I haven't heard enough of his work to form a real opinion.

By "his work" I mean entire albums. Sure, everyone knows this song or the other, but I try and draw a thick line between the popular songs and the songs that filled the rest of the recordings. That's the only way to really get a good grasp of someone's contributions musically to me. It's why I'm happy to say I love the Beatles but don't feel comfortable saying I'm a fan of The Rolling Stones.

But yeah, Graceland was kind of cool. One day I'd like to have my own little Jungle Room.

For artists of Elvis' vintage, the album was entirely irrelevant, fit only for monied olds and their classical and Broadway.  Early rock-and-roll only cared about singles, because that's all the teens could afford to buy.  I mean, I love albums more than anyone and lament the demise of the whole album as an art form more than anyone... but to judge the early rock-and-rollers on an album basis is to rather flagrantly miss the point.

Anyway, eh, FF.  He's not really my jam, and Chuck Berry probably deserves the place in American culture that Elvis occupies instead, but you gotta respect his influence all the same.

Positive, but not unequivocally so. traininthedistance's point about the standards by which early rock-and-rollers should be judged is well-taken.

He was a good rock and roller. We found a tall beagle two weeks ago and named him Elvis because he's a hound dog. He's still with us because we haven't seen signs from his owner. The only thing I don't like is that he throws up everywhere and farts all the time. In the two weeks it's been since we found him I have yet to see him poop outside. Instead he waits until we leave and then goes all over the floor in the dog room. It's not very pleasant at all. When we get home there's enough dog crap to clog the toilet. Now because of all the extra germs our dogs have fleas and it's only getting worse. I think the worst part about him is when he jumps up onto our bed at night and his butt stains the sheets. We've been washing our sheets practically every other day because of him. Does anyone know if it's ok for dogs to eat a little bit of grass? Elvis seems to eat grass before throwing up. Our clothes are dirty all the time too because he likes to lay in the clothes' basket and poops in it. Is anyone looking for a dog or wanting one?

Is this supposed to be some sort of metaphor?

Using the word "literally" in that sentence means that he sounds like the numeral symbol between 1 and 3.

What satisfies me is when the word "literal" isn't used in a statement that is non-literal Tongue

Apparently Grumps' anus plays Elvis music when he voids his bowels. What an impressive feat, I must say.

One of the best musicians of all-time! I have a lot of his 1950s songs on the original 78RPM records and still play them quite regularly.

He was objectively talentless (except, I suppose, as a minstrel sans blackface) and obviously tone deaf, so, no.

He is related to me, in some way. I like him, and I love the Aloha Hawaii concert in particular. He ties with Bob Dylan as the most important person in the history of American music.
