Debate over.

McNeil got stronger over the debate. Dexter got weaker. Baillie stayed the same throughout.

Yikes

McNeil didn't impress me in the debate. Dexter did well for himself though.

Just like the election, voters at the Herald-Chronicle have a tight race for who won, but Dexter came out ahead and he needs that.

http://thechronicleherald.ca/novascotia/1156736-baillie-dexter-take-aim-at-front-runner-mcneil
Dexter - 36%
McNeil - 29%
Baillie - 27%

Here are some thoughts i saw pop on my feed of those who watched the debate:
"1. PC Leader Jamie Baillie is a better debater then I expected (even though most of his policies are kinda loopy) 2. Lib Stephen McNeil could use some lessons on altering the pitch of his voice once in awhile and 3. Premier Dexter is head over heels the smartest guy in the room and the ONLY guy I would trust to move this province forward."

"Dexter did very well pleasantly surprised. MacNeil sounds like an adult on Charlie Brown and should be referred to him s Captain Blah Blah hence forth. I wonder who tied Bailey's shoes because that was sone silly and ridiculous stuff he was saying."

"3 thoughts that are totally irrelevant to any legit assessment of the debate: Dexter has a great smile, McNeil doesnt seem to know what one is, and Baillie still seems to think "Bystander in Chief" is a line people will laugh at. I leave my serious comments for later"

"Dexter did very well. It was interesting that the PCs attacked the Libs as much as the NDP ... but I think Dexter best articulated what the election results would mean for people."

The PC's feel that the NDP are almost down to their "base" level of support. Plus we're closer to the Liberals anyway so attacking the Liberals will profit us more than attacking the NDP.

Oh dear, I have Dexter losing his seat (45.9-45.1). Likely won't happen though.

As bad as this would be for the NDP - 29% is within range of what the NDP typically was getting in NS elections from 1998 to 2005 and is about what the federal party usually gets in Nova Scotia...what really floors me is how low the Conservatives are falling - when you get down to the mid-teens you could be facing wipe out!

Pretty hard to wipe out the Tories, when they have Cumberland and Colchester Counties who will always vote for them (unless an independent is running).

Colchester North is a lost cause according to my staffer friend working up there. Sad There's still some hope in C-MV though.

My picks for who will hold out in a best case scenario for the Liberals:

Argyle-Barrington
Cape Breton Centre
Cole Harbour-Eastern Passage
Cumberland North
Cumberland South

Halifax Needham
Hants East
Pictou Centre

A mix of popular incumbents and hardcore PC/NDP territory (Cumberland County, and the poorest parts of Halifax/Cape Breton respectively). The only exception is Pictou Centre where the Liberals are non-existent.
