Hutchinson raised a grand total of 445k with $1.3 million COH. Jerry, any reason why Hutchinson's an awful fundraiser? Perennial loser, many Pub donors being OK with Ross and a Pub Leg, something else? Needless to say that sort of fundraising is a vicious circle.

It's not the pub Legislator, since they have been very bipartisan with Beebe.  He just sucks, and this family name is tarnished in the state also.

How will Darr's replacement be chosen? Special election? Appointment by the governor? Appointment by the legislature?

If I'm interpreting this right, a special election would be within 150 days of the vacany.

When Win Rockefeller died in July '06 the parties agreed to leave the post vacant, dunno how that was done though. When Shoffner resigned last spring Beebe appointed a placeholder. I think the statutes have changed or are different. Maybe Jerry can clarify for us.

It looks like the 150-day thing would theoretically be in effect, but it might change:

Pubs have won the vacant SD-21, which moves the State Senate to 22-13 Pub. More importantly, makes the "private option" reauthorization a bit more difficult, the Pub senator-elect being a fierce foe.

2nd Ross ad out. Faith, family values, guns (bad idea considering his backflip) and Beebe.

The only reason Arkansas has term limits is simply because of Bill and Hilary Clinton, especially Bill, who served 5 terms as the Natural State's governor. Republicans in Arkansas were only able to beat him once, in 1980 due to the Reagan revolution that year

Only 2 guvs served more than 4 years before the term was extended to 4 years (2-year guv terms practically define moronic IMO) in the '80s: Bubba and Faubus.

Considering that Faubus (ugh) is Arkansas's longest-serving governor with 12 consecutive years in office from January 11, 1955-January 10, 1967. Had Clinton lost to Bush 41 in '92, he would have easily broken Faubus' record.

Jim Guy Tucker is still allowed to serve 2 more terms since he only served 1 term.

Huckabee is the only Republican to serve 10 consecutive years as Arkansas Governor

My best guess is the Republican's favored - Arkansas is only close because Hutchinson is running.

Griffin might be considering a run for LG. If he did, dunno if the field gets cleared but he'd probably win anyways. Has to decide soon since the filing deadline's in a couple of weeks. Even if Hutchinson, who'd be 68 in 2018, won and sought reelection Griffin would be 54 and could end his career on a high note.

Hobbs will drop down to LG, Collins probably gets out but Mayberry's staying. Given Burkhalter's self-funding Griffin will need some decent coin, not that I think he'll have a problem getting it.

If Ross somehow wins the governorship for the Dems, Griffin could run in 2018 on the GOP side.

Collins has confirmed he'll drop out and run for re-election to his state Senate seat.
