Leaving the definitions of both as intentionally vague as possible, and no "they're equal" for today.

Justice is, by definition, the only thing that matters. Justice also obviously encompasses some degree of liberty (the just amount of it, that is).

The idea that they're opposite to each other is a very American concept.

They are inextricably entwined like Siamese twins. One cannot have one without the other. If, e.g., you don't have the rule of law, respect for private property, and the like, you simply cannot have liberty.

Justice for me.

The people who badger on about liberty around my parts usually equate that with a flat tax, abolition of all welfare and the ending of religious marriage.

Well, yes, I'm a Democrat. I thought it was obvious enough for me not to have to precise that.

Wait, I thought you supported gay marriage?

I do. I'm a strong supporter of marriage and the ability of certain religious denominations to bless same sex couples. The people I'm on about though would remove the state and Church from the marriage business entirely, which I find abhorrent. So, yeah.

Ah, I see. It's just that every time I've heard people talk about "religious marriage", it's to justify their opposition to gay marriage.

I too concur with the points made here by Franzl and Torie.

Anyway, to answer Snowstalker's query: Liberty (I/Other).

yea this question kind of defeats itself anyway.. they are the same, it would be UNJUST for someone to not have their liberties.

Yes. And it makes the question an absurd false dichotomy.

I cannot pick one over the other as they are not in opposition to one another, as has been mentioned above.

"Liberty" as it is colloquially defined in the United States, at least, is the single most overrated idea in political discourse, perhaps of all time.
