Upton Sinclair, a long time candidate for the presidency, had finally led the Socialists to the White House. However, things would not go entirely as planned. Joseph McCarthy, a former Republican backbencher, jumped to the national forefront amid American suspicion of the Soviet Union post-World War II. Despite Sinclair attempting to actually lead an anti-communist foreign policy, McCarthy proffered that the State Department was riddled with communists and Soviet sympathizers. Many Americans soon found themselves alienated from the Socialist Party. As well, with accusations regarding Henry Wallace proving to be somewhat true, and revelations of a pro-Soviet faction of State Department workers and policy makers, the other parties were ready to strike. The fall of China to Mao Ze Dong in 1949 didn't make the Socialists' foreign policy look good either. Meanwhile, despite drastic measures and constant legislative battles, the postwar economy has refused to cooperate.

President Sinclair faces an election challenge from Darlington Hoopes, another party veteran. Meanwhile, his own party is falling apart with the birth of the Socialist Labor Party and their candidate Eric Hass. For the Democrats, a tough nomination battle is taking place between many prominent party liberals as well as conservative Richard Russell. The Republicans are looking at their greatest possible candidate yet. Dwight D. Eisenhower, adored by the nation, has chosen to accept the draft movement for President by the Republicans. He faces conservative icon Robert Taft and a few notable moderates and liberals.

Who will you choose? One day to decide.

Let's not let these witch-hunters get the best of us! Forward with Sinclair! And dump Wallace for Hoan, to punish the former for running against Sinclair in '48.

I voted for my fellow Pennsylvanian, Hoopes here, but will likely support the Socialists and President Sinclair in the GE.

I stand with the President. Mr. Cathcon's recount of Sinclair's Presidency is clearly biased by his anti-Socialism and his resentment at the electoral success of our glorious party.
