And still, East Coast Establishment magazine endorses fellow elitist.

What Obama failed to understand, is that most of that 47% don't want to be in that 47%.

Yes, because Obama's coalition of Latinos, Asians, African Americans, inner-city whites, and young people are elitists.

Willard Mitt Romney's coalition of suburban and rural whites (mainly male) is a freaking representative rainbow coalition. Nothing says people's champion like Mitt Romney.

That coalition is increasingly shrinking.  I think now it might be a good time to ask why.

Yes, I am sure Asians, Latinos, African Americans, and inner-city whites will flock to the people's champion Mitt Romney, and all that will be left are elitist professors and New Yorker readers.

Coming from the party that is 87% white and 54% male? You know the Democrats do not have the same medium and long-term problems as Republicans.

Here in Columbus the Dispatch's endorsement was the usual predictable rightwing slop (they have not endorsed a Democrat since 1912); my dad works as a sports columnist for the paper and he acknowledges editorial as a horror show.

A bit off topic for the presidential race board, but I was surprised the Dispatch endorsed re-electing Sherrod Brown.

Wow, the Salem Statesman endorsed Romney.  That is a huge surprise.  Salem is a dirty hippy paradise, I've spent some time there and it's an extremely liberal town.

Swiss political magazine "Weltwoche" endorses Romney!

(This obviously won't have any sort of impact on the outcome of the election but I think it's noteworthy because there are probably not going to be many European newspapers/magazines that openly endorse Mitt Romney for president.)

http://www.weltwoche.ch/weiche/hinweisgesperrt.html?hidID=546322

A Case for Romney (my own translation of the article's bottom line)

In conclusion, Romney has a splendid record both in the private and the public sector. As a former business executive, he not only understands the mechanisms of the economy, but he also established and led successful enterprises and put failed companies back on the road to success. He saved the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City after a period of mismanagement and even managed to end the Games with a surplus. Additionally, as Governor of Massachussetts he was able to balance the budget in cooperation with the Democrats. His record qualifies him for the leadership of the country. The USA in 2012 is a case for Mitt Romney.

Yeah, Brown's got this, though Mandel should finish respectably close enough to keep his future asperations alive.

I don't know why you're being sarcastic, I was expecting them to support Obama but they're a center-right, Serious Person, paper, after all and I wouldn't have been hugely shocked if they'd backed Romney.

Their actual editorial is awful. What sane, objective person would say that Obama ceded control to left-wing Congressional Democrats and had too leftist a presidency? Having this gang of fascists and austeritards on my camp makes me want to abandon ship.

As someone who's been reading The Economist for some time, they've always been very nice to Obama and very unfavorable toward Romney. It is true ideologically the reverse stance makes more sense, but they've made it eminently clear who they support since Day One.

What sane, objective person would say that Obama had too leftist a presidency?

A right-winger...

I never thought I'd say this, but, yes, Vosem's right - from The Economist's perspective Obama hasn't exactly toed their preferred line. Which is fine by me, of course, but there you go.
