I must admit that I'm dissapointed by the amount of Presidents you guys are picking-think outside the square of this forum for a moment or two Cheesy

I'm also surprised at the amount of sportsmen listed who don't, in my opinion, compare to Carl Lewis. But it's your country...

How many flight hours did Carl Lewis log over Korea? Wink

No Presidents on my list, though many were great Americans.

I didn't choose any Presidents either.

I picked Franklin, because he is a giant of American life.

I picked Gehrig, because I thought he embodied the American spirit in athletics.

I picked King for obvious reasons.

I picked Patton, because I wanted a military leader and thought he was the best.

I picked Winters, because I wanted a lesser known person, who was/is still a great person and role-model.  Winters was truely great MofO or no MofO.

P.S. The only reason Winters was not awarded the Medal of Honor is that there was a quota established for each division during WWII.

My actual nominations...not that I was taking this seriously:
1 Dock Boggs
2 Woody Guthrie
3 John Lee Hooker
4 Johnny Cash
5 Kurt Cobain
Hmmm...four Southerners.

Well... It makes sense when you want to pick the greatest Americans that you would most likely pick a president.  They have an extremely powerful ability to influence American history, given by their position.  If everyone picks the same presidents, maybe it's because they are actually the greatest Americans.  I'm more dissapointed in the people that insert token females and obscure historical figures.  How great can they be if no one knows about them?

If you think anypone I listed is obscure, you must not know much about America.

Also, the 'token female' thing was a joke, because almost nobody else listed any women. I truly believe she deserved to be on there.

I wasn't specifically referring to you when I talked about obscure people and token women.  A lot of people were putting obscure historical figures no one knew about.  While you did blatantly say "token female" you're not the only one who would add a token minority, sex, et cetera, but you were the only one who vocalized it openly so it might have sounded like I was refering directly to you.  Sorry.

You accidentially included a Yankee in your list Wink

Ah well, he did support the legality of the Confederacy, so he's the better type of Yankee, heh.
