No because none of the examples above would govern remotely the way they do if they were those things and basing decisions on pragmatism. Certainly you can see how even if Obama is personally a socialist it makes sense for him to govern how he is? He's at least taking the country in the same direction as his ideology.

I generally take a statement to the effect that Obama is a socialist as a cue not to take any of that person's posts seriously since they're clearly either gullible morons or hacks of such an extreme mouth-breathing level that virtually anything else they write is certain to be just as intellectually dishonest.

Only if we accept the apparent premise that words have no actual meaning and we can thus apply whatever label tickles our fancy regardless of the lack of any supporting evidence whatsoever.

Since "socialist" is apparently just a collection of noises and not the name of a political ideology, I'm going to start using it in contexts that would otherwise appear patently absurd. Michelle Bachmann is a socialist!

It is interesting to see how our European friends label Obama.

My passportless American colleagues should take note.  Our country is so far to the right ideologically that even our prominent left wing politicians are considered right wing on any normal scale.

So anyone who thinks Obama is a socialist is either:
a) a mindless political hack
b) actually a very well meaning person who simply has never seen a passport in their life

The only prominent US politician I'd say comes anywhere close to being a socialist is Kuchinich and even then, he'd be considered a relatively moderate social dem in most of Europe.

Kucinich actually fought for public utilities as a mayor of Clevland, while Sanders is only a "Socialist" in political persuasion to my knowledge.
