You're one of my favorite posters, and one of my favorite Republicans on this board. While I disagree with you on Mitt Romney, the Death Penality and Vouchers; I'm sure that we agree on most things. We need more Republicans like you, htmldon, BullMoose and myself!

No, gays are not a threat to our institutions. Activist courts, on the other hand, are, and I don't give a f**ck about your "progress."

activist courts?  you mean the ones that actually provide 'equal justice under law'?  i guess brown vs. the board of education was decided by an 'activist court'?

Brown v. Board was decided based on an actual provision of the Philip is referring to things like the substantive due process rights that were invented by the Supreme Court in the '60s and '70s.

Bringing up Brown v. Board in this context is a way for loose constructionists to retroactively justify their existence.

And no, you're not a real Republican since you don't like our base.

Those are fightin' words (and rather hypocritical) coming from a liberal like yourself.

Homosexuals could already get married. If they hadn't been able to, I'd agree with you.

You can't ban someone from getting married because of who they are. You can, however, have laws that don't allow people to marry someone of the same sex, as long as it's consistent for all people.

But I don't hate the base.

I don't start threads attacking "the fundies" or things like that.  Sure there are places where I disagree with the party platform, hence I do not consider myself a conservative.  But I don't treat the party's base like the enemy the way Walter does.

This is why having any conversation with most of you board members is useless. If you debate anything you are automatically labeled "racist" "bigot". That's why I enjoy debating real historians because they actually like to debate these issues instead of automatically labeling someone bigot or racist.
