Wow, what a horrible week for the NFC East.  All four teams were on the short end of the stick.  Philadelphia went down Thursday, then Washington got knocked out by the Jets, the Cowboys got suprised by the Cardinals, and the Giants got edged out by the Packers.  This sets up a good matchup next week with the New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys for the lead in the division.  The division winner will have, at best, a 11-5 record will win the division (Dallas) and depending on what happens in Week 14, it could be a 10-6 team winning the division (Dallas or New York).

Whoever picks music acts for the NFL needs to talk to fans and stop trying to cater to our wives (or whatever the hell they're thinking when they pick acts like this).  Didn't Nickleback play one of the Thanksgiving games?  Ugggg.....And that Aerosmith/Britney Spears abortion at the Super Bowl a few years ago.

The rumored "fire Castillo if you want to keep your job" ultimatum is extremely encouraging yet, I'm sure equally false. Doesn't sound very Lurie unfortunately.

It looks like the 49ers have just decided as a team that they're not interested in making an effort to score touchdowns.

Question about the NFL:

Does anyone know why the NFL does not have promoted teams or relegated teams after each season like in football leagues ?

It seems the NFL consists of all the same teams each year. Any reason for that ?

Who would be promoted? There are no other teams; the only other significant football competition belongs the NCAA, and its teams are amateur, not professional. Occasionally new teams will be created (the last was the Houston Texans in 2003), but there are no plans for any further expansion. The last team to be removed from the league was the Dallas Texans (no relation to the current Houston team), who were folded in 1952.

I'll say it here first: GB goes 16-0 but falls in the playoffs. I predict that they lose in the NFCCG to the Saints.

It'll be disappointing when the 49ers inevitably lose at Lambeau, but then they usually lose in the NFC Championship Game. It would be nice enough to get there.

It's also better than losing the Super Bowl. 5-0 in the big game!

Now that Pittsburgh has six, the zero is the only thing left to cling to.

I don't really think we're ready to win another Super Bowl yet. Our defensive output has been great, but our offense needs to be more reliable. We should also have a tougher pass defense, since so many of our major competitors are using run-and-shoot offenses these days. Our pass defense is basically median in the league, which doesn't offer promise against big-passing teams like the Saints & the Packers.

A lot of that comes from the way that teams have just stopped trying to run the ball against the 49ers; naturally, if they're throwing every down, they'll get more yards that way. The 49ers are the ninth-best team in the league in yards per pass attempt. I wouldn't worry about that.

Yeah I expect him and Sanchez to each get a Super Bowl.

Haha, if only. Sanchez has barely shown he can string together 3 or 4 quarters and you expect him to do 3 or 4 games in a row.

Flacco's better than Sanchez by a pretty significant amount.  Sanchez has never been a commodity at QB (but has, at least, slightly improved over time through his career so there is more than nothing to hang your hat on).  problem is the core of the Jet defense is aging so the best chance to win a SB in the Ryan-Sanchez era likely has come and gone.

If the Jags take Schotty away we'll definitely go to the Super Bowl. Our play calling is terrible and they don't utilize our weapons enough.

I remember the exact same line of logic regarding Paul Hackett in '04/'05.
