I can him possibly self-imploding. Though he leads now I don't see him beating Romney in the long run. He's the flavor of the month and will eventually pass.

Compare and contrast his speech at the VFW yesterday with the one Mitt Romney gave. Perry has nowhere to go but down...

I don't think he'll be a total failure but I think he'll disappoint, coming off as a bit boring and sound-bitey.  The red meat people will eat that trash up, but he won't change any minds.

I live in Texas (hence the name) and he didn't participate in the 2010 debates.  The debates ended up consisting of Bill White (D), Kathie Glass (L) and Deb Shafto (G).  He may be rusty because the last time I think he debated was 2006

Perry debated Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina for GOP TX Gov primary in 2010

Watched a bit of both, he wasn't very impressive. Lots of sound-bite platitudes, but short on substance.

ohh that's right I forgot about the primary debates.  Nevermind I was wrong.  However with a Presidential election he won't be able to hide in the general like he did in my state when running for governor

Reagan's best line in 1980 was "I paid for this microphone."  Sometimes the stuff just gels.

If he was debating Hutchison, he wasn't exactly hiding.  (And I probably would have voted for Hutchison.)

There's no way he can live up to the hype.

What hype?  Seems to me that the expectation has been formed by articles such as the one linked to in the first post.  With expectations so low, he will meet or exceed them.

In some ways, it is an "unveiling," a first impression.  Perry, if he does well, could soar.  Likewise, if someone does better in comparison (Bachman, Romney, maybe Santorum) their numbers could rise.

what hype? the hype that puts him first in the polls before anyone really knows who he is, that he's the second coming of Ronald Reagan, the One Conservative Hope. The BFD since Fred Thompson!

Like that matters in a Republican debate.

Yeah he just had to hide from the Democrat Nominee in 2010 for some reason.... Cowardice running high.

He won't be able to hide from debating Obama, that would seal his defeat

I'd give it to "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?" personally.

I was referring to the primary, and Reagan took the like from a movie that he wasn't even in.  Smiley

Primaries, at this point, are often about style more than substance.

In the general, "It's the economy, stupid."

He's going to disappoint in the debates, but the Hardcore Neo-Cons will still think he's the bees knees.

I would not write off Perry or even Paul at this point and I would not write off Obama being re-elected (though it is becoming less probable).
